I've yet to see someone on a rental scooter that:

1) knew what they were doing - both operating the scooter and navigating
2) was operating it in what I consider to be a safe manner

On my way home today, I saw an older couple and a kid driving a golf cart on the multi-use path. They pulled into a complex just west of the Tom Thumb in Seagrove and I decided to pull in and let them know about it being a "no-no" to have motorized vehicles on the bike path. They were very nice and so was I. They both thanked me for the advice and let me know that a Deputy had told them it was ok for them to drive on the bike path. I said, well, I can only imagine that would be because you don't have a tag or insurance on the cart and the lady said, "oh, we have insurance but no tag.". I would hope that the deputy would have told them to stay off public rights of way and go park the dang thing and maybe he did.Just because your gold cart "look" like a Rolls....it's not and it needs to be street legal. I see a lot of kids zooming around in those things too, especially in and around Water Color and Publix.

Brings to mind the two kids on rental scooters I saw at the Seagrove Tom Thumb about ten days ago. One kid was filling his gas tank, when another came racing in at full speed toward his friend, locked up the brake and yanked the handle to the left, sliding into the other kid's rental scooter (WHILE HE WAS STILL PUMPING GAS!!!) Scared the bageezers out of the other kid, and almost gave my customer a heart attack.

Fire trucks were at this Tom Thumb over the weekend - I wonder if it was the same incident!

I must admit to renting mopeds in at least three foreign countries (driving on the left, too!) at the ripe age of young 20-something and crashing a few times! I'm pretty sure we had helmuts, though! My GF ran into a cyclone fence. I think I ran into the McDonald's drive thru sign! And, we had a few more mishaps, but we didn't get hurt. At that age, you are full of having funn and not particularly full of brains. We laughed a lot!

Am very careful now with scooters, mopeds and motorcycles on the road! Defensive driving rings true these days
