My razor (which has been a disappointment) crapped out yesterday after I was caught in the rain and I need a new phone.

I was thinking of biting the bullet and getting an iPhone. I have never had a real iPod, and my musician buddies tell me I MUST get an iPhone. They say that I can probably get by with an 8gb, but I'd really be thrilled with a 16gb.

However, I was talking to someone who works for AT&T tonight (her daughter is a student of mine) and she said to not get an iPhone because of the cost of the service plan. She told me to get a Samsung Eternity or an LG Vu instead.

Anyone out there have any thoughts on this for me? I would get a Pomegranate, but I don't like coffee.

That looks like a step up from what I'm looking at, the Samsung Eternity.

Question for iPhone devotees--how much of the love has to do with the iPod-type features? I never got an iPod, and don't really want one...

i got an ipod touch 8 gb which is basicly the iphone without the phone. it will pretty much do everything the iphone will do including most applications.

As you already know my vote......iphone! I absolutely love mine and before it I was not really a phone person. I have the 16gb and don't know how to fill that thing up. Not sure what your friend is talking about, mine only cost me $15.00 a month extra. I would cut $15.00 a month out of my budget elsewhere if need be....it's worth it.

I'm thinking that if I got one, the 8gb would be plenty for me...

I got the 8GB Ipod and have filled it already!

And since you are a big music person, I would assume you would do the same.

I actually DON'T listen to a lot of music. I'm inundated 16 hours a day with it, so I like a little bit of peace and quiet. I listen to audio books on the road when I can.
I only have an iPod shuffle for running, and have never really wanted an iPod.

So are you saying that the 8gb isn't big enough? Do you think you should have got the 16gb?

I'm a long time blackberry owner and if you are with Att, they carry the best BB called the Bold. I do have to be honest though, if they would get some of the bugs worked out on the iphone I'd jump ship but I'm too hung up on using Yahoo IM and BB IM.

I only listen to my Ipod when traveling too and I went nuts putting EVERY cd I could get my hands on onto it, so 8GB works fine for me.

But since I have only only bought 4 cds in the last 10 years (Redd, Salty Dog, Waco, Dread) and am tone deaf and rhythmically deficient I figured you would have a greater need for space - I figured you would want all of your favorites on there, then all the shows you see, then all the shows you direct, and .................... road trip music for the drive to Sowal!
