Don't hate me because I am beautiful, hate me because my zip code is 32459. :D Oh, and did I mention I "live" on the south side of 30-A.

:lolabove: Do you think they send the jalopy ambulance to PCB 911 calls?!
Since the Panama City Beach Emergency Services are in Bay County, and SoWal's in Walton County, I just thought there may be potential for screw ups. I grew up in a town where 911 calls were local, but our phone services were through the neighboring state's. So, if you called 911, we received Emergency services in the neighboring state, and they were told specifically that the could not cross the State line for emergencies. So, our little town, not having a 911 service, and only volunteer ambulance and fire, we had to look up the number in the phone book for City Hall, who didn't have 24/7 dispatch. If the call was after hours, the phone would continuously ring. :bang: They didn't even have an answering machine. So if you really needed help, you had to call the Sheriff, which was a long distance call because he lived in a neighboring small town just down the road. That meant, you had to dial 0 (zero) to get an operator to place the call. The Sheriff (my cousin) was rarely at home. If no answer at his house, you started to work your way down the ranks. :bang::bang::bang:

After the fires in SoWal this summer, I read that the Emergency services for this area of NW FL are somewhat interlinked and will cross County lines, but if I were living in a questionable area of concern, I would be contacting Emergency Services to see how they respond. If the call goes into PCB 911, can they dispatch Walton County? Just a question I would ask. I recall a recent incident where a person's home in SoWal burned to the ground, even though they called 911 immediately. After never hearing the sirens, and the home being less than 5 miles to the nearest Fire Station, the homeowner called again. Dispatch had sent the Fire Trucks to a place in North Walton, with a similar street name. OOPS! By the time the SoWal firetrucks arrived from the second call, it was too late.

If the call goes to a different county, they have the ability to transfer to the proper agency. This usually does not happen from a hard-wired phone line. BUT, using a cell phone is a much different matter. You can be way into Bay county for example and dial 911. It is very well possible that your cell phone will be picked up by a tower in Walton County. That will send your call to the wrong answering point. Unfortunately, it is the nature of the cell technology. :bang:

Anything with the PCB zip code will show it as a PCB address when you call 911. It is usually not a big deal as the address will come up on the map automatically as long as it is in Walton County. Same thing happens in the Miramar Beach areas. That is a 32550 Destin zip code. Even better is that Sandestin Resort is 32550 and right above is Driftwood Estates in 32459. Fun time for sure.

Now, I'm totally confused. I hear you saying that if you call 911 from a land line from an property in WalCo, with a PCB zipcode, the address shows up as being in PCB. Does the call go to Bay Co Emergency services, or Walton Co?

Seems like if the call goes to the wrong County, it could take a while that one may not have, before the emergency peeps were on the scene, especially if one wasn't able to explain the entire screwed up zipcode story to the 911 operator.

I don't think there is much problem with the 911 services. There is a fire station in Inlet Beach and it too has the 32413 zip code. We had an emergency this summer and had no problems using 911.

"911...what is your emergency and zip code?"

"Oh, you have chest pains and you live in South Walton, but you have a Panama City Zip Code? My goodness, you must feel awful!!....and that chest pain thingie probably smarts a bit too."

"<snicker> We're dispatching the ambulance that services that zip code right now"
