Lighten up, everyone! Yes, if he were my relative, I would be telling him he's a complete idiot - not only is he now unemployable, but there are major felony charges pending. This was an expensive prank, but from a distance, you have to admit it is funny. No one is seriously comparing him to Capt. Sully - it's a joke.

I read that some passengers are saying it never happened, but other reports (like the New York Post, which follows this sort of thing breathlessly) says that the FAA is looking for the unidentified passenger who was involved.

It doesn't all really matter in the day's news, but don't you think about doing something this incredibly stupid sometimes? I love good quitting-your-job-and-flushing-your-career stories. I'd never do it, and I'd never let anybody I loved do it, but, like I said, from a distance it's funny.

When it was reported that there was one incident (passenger hitting him with a bag) that set him off and made him leave the plane via the slide (which I have always wanted to try as Grandma says it is really fun) it was sort of funny and thinking of some of the DB people I have been on planes with he had my sympathy.

Once the details started coming out that he spent the flight drinking, not doing his job, and cursing over the loudspeaker it became ridiculous - even more so that people thought he was some sort of folk hero.

Good one!
I think I'm having what I wrote his final words were going down the slide on my tombstone. Gidget knows what they are ...lol.
Tell me!

I'll admit that I blew up at work this spring. Typically if there is one bad apple in a class, it breaks down the class morale, and the situation escalates. I had several bad apples in this particular class. They were incredibly rude to me. I was mad as hell and wasn't gonna take it anymore. So I just let them have it, without using any curse words (very difficult for me). I told the dean what I had done, and he said that I was within my rights to do that. The class was polite for the rest of the semester. Some sent me emails telling me they were sorry that I had been treated so rudely. When I walked into class after my blow up, there was always a "We love you, Dr. R." on the board. Better yet, I even won over the bad apples.

Was the flight attendant a hero? No. I agree with the other posters re this situation. Was I a hero? No. It's called class control. I just hadn't taught freshmen since I was a young professor, and the upper-level students that I normally teach have a rapport with me.

YES indeed I have felt like it! :D :D I've worked as a leasing agent for a car rental company at an airport, a rep at an airline ticket counter, as a server and other jobs where people are RUDE as heck - and there were times, at all jobs (especially when we ran completely out of cars at Hertz and I had 20+ business men with meetings in 1/2 hour yelling at me over the counter - with my boss no where in site!) when I felt like running out screaming and cussing. Airline/airport travelers are the WORSE to deal with IMO.

I don't think he is unemployable though - I think many sympathize with what happened - and he will get another chance - maybe a talk show :D. You are right - not serious about Sully, but Slater got just as much attention it would seem. And many journalists wrongly left the word "folk" out of the hero part of their stories - that was my gripe. That, and not telling "the rest of the story".

I do anticipate a great SNL skit!! And LOL Alicia, I can just SO see that on your tombstone :rotfl:

Thanks for the dialog folks. We haven't heard the last of this I'm sure.

Meanwhile, I almost let a biker have it this morning on the running path. He came up from behind - as many do - without warning and WITHOUT A BELL and I thought, hmmmm WWSD! ;-) I said to him "you might wanna get a bell" in a very nice tone and he rode off grumbling something....... perhaps I need to carry a bullhorn!!

This whole thing reminds me of one of my favorite Frasier episodes  It's SO worth the watch!
