Thanks everyone!

Key and Anchor are great, and these kids should have their 70 hours by graduation, but many kids do not join them due to involvement in other activities, jobs, etc. We are tying to create a go-to list that they can pick up at the school office and get their service hours when they fit into their schedules.

I am sending in a list of service hour opportunities to SWHS this morning. Students should check with the guidance office. Also, we hope to keep adding to the list, so please let me know if you know of any volunteer jobs for students!

Hello Jenny,

There is a 'community service hours' form in the South Walton High school office. Just ask Ms. Susie.

Yes- I just hope that everyone is remembering to use it! There also should now be a list of opportunities in one of the racks on the office wall, and seeing this thread again made me remember that it probably needs to be updated- --

have any of the students offered to volunteer some hours at the library so that it might be open on Saturday again?

It's kind of a haul, but I think it would be very rewarding. ARC is a program in north Walton that serves developmentally disabled adults. The project I'm most familiar with is their greenhouse, where they learn to learn to propagate and care for plants. They are always looking for help, and it is a very worthy cause.

Y'all keep adding the new ideas and I will make sure they get an updated list next week.

If anyone has contacted the library and knows the procedure and contact info for the students to volunteer, please let me know. I don't want to include the library on the list unless they want they want the help- kids just showing up might not be helpful and unorganized.

That is a good point. I will see what I can find out. I know they are working on a plan through Citizens Assistance at the County. Perhaps if they knew there are students are interested, it might help them move the plan along. I think they are currently using some DCT students at some of the library branches. I will see what I can find out and get the information to you.

I just need the contact info, and brief description of what is needed. If the library needs to have more commitment, they might want to contact the service clubs at the high school, for a more organized effort. The list of opportunities is more for individuals to pick up and know where they can go to get needed hours, so it is more informal.
