Oh man, that is funny! (Though I bet a bit uncomfortable for you... what are the odds??) I have no idea how I would react to flying, but my uncle is extremely phobic. He has to medicate himself, and even then has been known to have a panic attack or simply pass out on his way to his flight. Sad part is, he married a native hawaiian and they live in Kauai. Not a good place to live when you have problems flying.

We're hoping to save up enough money to fly to Hawaii soon. All we would need would be plane tickets, but for a family of four that would be over $2000. One day though! I've committed myself to staying home with our children while they are at home, but when they are grown we should be more free (time-wise and financially) to travel more. I do wish we could do those things while our kids are little and so full of wonder, but I don't regret our sacrifices a bit. We'll get our turn. It will just be after "retirement".

Very good choice, and you are so right about time to do things later. A sense of security in a child cannot be bought and having a full time parent is very good. I worked and juggled raising the girls and while they turned out great, I regret that they were unable to be lazy children ...not have to get up, be dressed, fed, and at the sitter by 7 am. Enjoy every crazy moment...they do not last. However, adult children are really fun, too. Just in a different way.

That trip is hellacious. Flying out of ATL, once you pass the west coast, you're on the plane longer between there and Honolulu than between there and ATL. I though I'd lose my mind. Then we had to take a flakey flight from there to Maui. I need a new drug to get me there.

We're thinking about going to Asia next summer. Can someone just hit me over the head with a hammer to knock me out for the trip? I can deal with our trip to Italy, but Asia is 24 hours, bed to bed.

That's a good point, about enjoying vacations with adult children too. I imagine we will appreciate those times even more, since we won't get to see them as much. And by then, maybe there will even be grandchildren! :clap_1:

Honey, you must go with him. It's so awesome to experience a completely different culture. And dining there is so mind-expanding. Get some knockout drugs and get on the plane. You won't regret it.

My personal recommendations: the Ritz-Carlton in Osaka (complete luxury) and Inakaya (restaurant) in Tokyo.

Yeah I'm not fond of long flights. On my one and only I took two dramamine and was wide awake! And of course I had a dramahangover when I got of the plane. Of course it was 9 in the morning when we got there so rise and shine and talk in a different language and meet a new family and learn your way around the city you will be in for three months. I'll never forget that day...

Dramahangovers are the worst!!! Drugs don't help me...in fact, I took an Ambien CR (extended release) the other night and only slept 3 hours!!!!

Didn't you study abroad in Spain? We are trying to get MS to go abroad. I hope he decides to do it.

Yes, I've told you before!!! It was the greatest time in my life. I can't believe it was two years ago this summer! Talk about different culture.

They have the best history! I mean it goes back so far I'm still trying to figure it out. Tell MS he must go!!!
