Okay, I didn't have my glasses on and scratched at something in the bend of my leg. About the time I realized it was a tick it came off or most of it came off. Now it is itching like crazy and has formed a knot about the size of kidney bean . I tried Benadyrl cream but not helping much. Any ideas?

You need to go see your doctor tomorrow. Unfortunately there is the risk of Lyme disease and they will probably want to test for this. Hopefully all is okay, but it is something to be taken very seriously. In addition you probably broke off the ticks probiscus (sp?) the part it sticks in you and that needs to be removed.

Does your local hospital have a nurse line? If not, check your insurance card--I know Blue Cross has one.

I would be afraid to wait until tomorrow if you are having a reaction. That can be some ugly stuff.

Meanwhile, forget the Benedryl cream. Take the capsules. Use antibiotic cream.

You need to be on medication! Your treatment depends on the type of tick --- dog tick (big), deer tick (tiny), etc. Ticks can give you Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Lyme Disease, and other diseases. GO TO THE DOCTOR!

Before Frontline for dogs, when I slept with two miniature poodles and a husband , I was a tick magnet. I'd find a tick embedded on me about twice a month from March through late summer. My doctor always kept refills available for me for antibiotics. Thanks to Frontline, I (knock on wood) haven't had any ticks on me since standard poodle Pepper joined the family.

Advice here from someone with chronic Lyme disease and every other tick borne infection on this earth that could possibly be obtained.

See a doctor asap. They might test for Lyme, but here in the Northeast, they do test , but also take a defensive stance and dispense antibiotics, usually doxycycline. Some for 14 days, others for 30 days. Most doctors use their standard Labs for testing, not ones that specialize in Lyme panels, and the results are not always accurate. The tests have gotten better over the years, but they do not rely on them completely here and use a clinical approach. You'll hear that there are more false positives than negatives, which is a crock. You may hear there is no Lyme in the Panhandle, which is also a crock. They found many Lyme ticks at Fort Eglin AFB. Although antibiotics should be dispensed with care, the potential risk outweights that, IMHO. You could also watch for signs and symptoms, like a rash, flu like illness, headaches, anything out of the ordinary, before taking antibiotics, but get that knot checked out and treated.

BR- Antibiotics are supposed to be used judiciously. I am not a fan of pets that go outdoors, sleeping in beds we inhabit, mainly due to the Lyme issue.... Frontline or not. If your dog picks up a hitchhiker, you still run a risk. It's the ticks you don't see or feel that one should be worried about. Fleas also transmit disease and coupled with Lyme could be devastating. Just saying.

You're right about the antibiotics. I don't worry about Pepper getting fleas or ticks because of the Frontline and because we let her out in a confined area. When we make a dog potty stops on the way to the beach, we always stop at a church instead of at a gas station or fast-food restaurant where other dogs are likely to have been.

Thanks for the advice. So sorry about your Lyme disease.

Thanks to all, will see the Dr today. Took a Benadryl capsule last night. Our boxer Rudy is on Frontline but I must have picked it up while flying a kite in the pasture last Sunday. Yeah I'm a big kid. March is so fun for kite flying.

FYI -- My dogs are on FrontLine, but still pick up ticks. I've also tried other combo meds for ticks and heartworms without full success. Frontline isn't made to repel ticks, just to kill them after they've been sucking the blood, but sometimes, that can take a few days.

I unfortunately discovered something on the back of my neck this evening, well, I felt it last night, but thought it felt like dry skin, it was the tiniest of ticks embedded in my neck, had quite a grip, luckily for me my husband was able to get it out.

And also unlucky for me is the fact that I have had a strange rash on me that I assumed was related to the antibiotic I was on. Hopefully may still be. There is only a tiny little red spot, however, Saturday night I developed a sudden onset headache followed by horrible chills.

Every day since I have had that headache come up, I had chills twice Sunday, none since, I have applied alcohol to the place a couple of times, and tri-biotic cream. But I also have been battling sinus issues followed by a cold that caused a nasty cough also which all cause many of the same symptoms so I am going to watch this spot.
