How unprofessional

Just say it's take your dog to work day.

I'd applaud the fact you are saving $$$ and fuel by telecommuting. I'll echo everyone else, who cares? They are paying you to problem solve and get them on line as quickly and painlessly as possible.

All that aside, I am partial to a little schnauzer tremelo every now and again.

It's common practice now so people shouldn't think much of it. And if someone gets po'd then they're out of touch with reality of the current trend in the workforce.

I work from home too (Mr. JR does too sometimes) and I am very careful not to let my home life, like barking dogs, stupid call-waiting beeps, crying kids outside next door, etc. interfere while I'm on the phone.

Having your windows open on a beautiful day is fine as long as you know what could happen. I make sure never to be on the phone when I know the letter carrier will be by because my dog sounds like he's gonna rip his throat out.

I too work virtually. I have ruined many a conference call, on my end, when my 2 dogs interupt a meeting by barking loudly. All the "suits' (men and women) all break out laughing (but are really jealous )in their vanilla colored conference room with the silver mini blinds, and that stupid ouji board looking, mega speaker phone smack dab in the center of the board room table..... just makes me very happy that I can work at home and not be in the corporate jungle..."who let the dogs out ...boom, boom."

Since we're on the subject, does anyone know of a glare screen for a laptop so I can use it at the beach? The glare is just too much and sun glasses don't help.

If it were me on the other end of your call, I would have said, "Oh, what kind of dogs do you have? What are their names?" etc. I wouldn't care one bit and like others said, as long as you speak English, I'd be a happy girl!

I bought a pull down screen from Auto Zone and under an umbrella it works killer. I also worked for People Soft back in the day and on our floor they let us take our dogs to work. We all surfed so we all rolled in around 10 or 11 and stayed till about 8 or 10 at night and we had one of the most productive Departments in the building. Everyone was happy and it kind of spooked everyone else. If you were lucky enough to speak with me there was a good chance you heard Punk Rock or Reggea in the back ground. I always talk to Reps and Tech Support and ask them personal stuff all the time. One time there was a lady on the other end breast feeding her child. Like everyone else said, if your English is good and your getting the job done who cares!:biggrin:View attachment 10298

When my bham office calls me, they call that conference thing the STARFISH. I just don't want them to be so jealous that they decide to make me move back up there to the red ozone bowl.

I know they get more work out of me now than they did from the office...and when I was there they got a ridiculous amount of work out of me.

I would be tickled pink to learn that the computer tech company which I was using allowed their employees to work from home, saving oil, gas, pollution, probably allows the employee much more freedom, and in the end, their company probably has happier employees which always leads to happier customers. Having the barking dogs, as long as it wasn't ongoing, would just share a bit of your personal life, with which I can relate. We need real people on the other end of our tech lines.
