That was cool :clap_1:
Love hummingbirds. Did you know they travel great distances when they migrate? more than any other bird. They also will come back to the same feeders. I dont use the feeders, but I plant red flowers near my windows so I can see them.

Now if I could just get the family of birds on my outdoor speakers to fledge already. Momma bird keeps sitting on the edge of my deck watching them for hours at a time. Then she flies up to the nest, and back down to the deck again. Looks like she is showing them what to do, but they ate listening! ;-)

:D I have had two feeders out since the end of March. My hummingbirds appeared around the middle of April. Haven't seen much of them over the past week or two though, probably because of the nesting. Nectar hasn't been disappearing like it had been. But they are drinking from it! Have one on my front porch and one on my side porch. Had to split them up because last year had about 4 hummingbirds and one kept chasing the other 3 off. Split them off so one cannot guard two feeders. Haven't seen but one bird this year though. I am sure there are more around that I am not seeing.

I haven't seen any this year. I plant red geraniums in pots and this usually draws a couple, but I haven't seen any. I bought a feeder a couple of days ago to see if this would bring one around, but I don't have it up yet. Is it possible that I just won't get any to come around?

What wonderful photographs these are. We have a lot of hummingbirds that hang out in an allee of oleander trees in our back yard. They watch and protect their feeders from that vantage point. Hummingbirds are quite aggressive birds and engage in aerial battles with other hummingbirds to protect their feeding sources. We occasionally find a dead one with its eye pierced. That's how they kill each other. They will fight to the death. Ours have become very brave and are constantly beating their wings directly above the dog or the cat as they scold them. This year, our babies are not yet hatched. Usually, they are ruby or emerald breasted, but last year we had one with an irridescent teal blue breast. I can't wait. Thanks for sharing this.

dbuck, they will come around. I bought a box of powdered hummingbird nectar in packets, you can buy them at Home Depot, Walmart even. They remember their feeding sources and come back to them every year. Just remember when you put it out to keep up with when you put it out as they will come back around the next year around the same time. And just because you do not see them, doesn't mean they aren't feeding! My porch will have drops of the nectar on it, that is how I know they have hit it even if I do not see them! Haven't seen a red throated one this year. Had one last year, and he was the one chasing the others off! I change the nectar out every 3 to 5 days.

I emptied the little bit of old out the other night and refilled them and they are pretty low. I have only seen one at ours this year but I have a feeling there are more than that since both feeders have continually both gotten low at the same time. Had 4 last year. Of course, I am not home during the day so I don't know how many are around. And until a few weeks ago, there was an abundance of azaleas blooming all around between our yard and the next door neighbor's yard and the yard across the street. They are going to drink from those flowers over a hummingbird feeder. Did anyone know Baltimore Orioles drink nectar? Read that on this Wild Birds Unlimited site!
