Corporations can contribute to the non-profits like Americans for Prosperity and Patients First. I think they are capped at how much they can contribute, however.

Expenses like this are generally part of their fixed costs when budgeting. Not sure how much the carriers are actually paying to keep the gov't out of their business. I wonder how much the gov't is spending to get in everyone's business???

Biden said we have to spend money to stay out of bankruptcy.......looks like that is being accomplished quite nicely by all of the big dogs.....but us? HHHmmmmm

Obama wants health care reform to be passed before the August recess. That's, what, in three weeks? "We can't kick the can down the road any longer," Obama said at a Wednesday afternoon news conference at the White House. "Deferring reform is nothing more than defending the status quo."

What is the rush to make such huge decisions by an arbitrary date, especially in the first 7 months of his presidency, when his predecessors haven't been able to get some sort of consensus in Congress for, like, ever?

It's like Obama's mad rush to pass TARP which resulted in a lot of crazy pork and not-so-well-thought-out ideas being made into law.

I believe that Obama is well-meaning, but he doesn't need to push through his campaign promises before his first year in office is over. Not very wise IMO.

I agree, he has rushed everything.

There are always loopholes available. The corporation contributes to the non-profit at the max, in turn every board member and executive employed by the company is usually given a bonus equal to the max contribution. Out of the goodness in their hearts they donate to the non-profit as well.

For the record there are no limits on 501c3's since the donor lists don't have to be made public. ;-)

For only 37 percent of Americans to be in support of Sotomayor tells me that either the polling numbers are off or the vast majority of people know practically nothing about her as a judge. Even the GOP finds her largely unobjectionable, and several have voiced their support.

Sotomayor wins GOP backers after smooth hearings - Yahoo! News

I have decided to stop caring about polls until election time because the day-to-day stuff amounts almost entirely to hyperventilation.

Her numbers are up today. Actually, they were up that night I started this thread. I was surprised no one posted that.

I'm not sure about the polls anyway; there are so many with changing variables. Interesting, however.
