DD, those 175 people are so lucky to have you around. ;-) I don't know a lot about Mardi Gras being from the north and all. I didn't even know what king cake was until last year or the year before when some of you were talking about it and the baby. For the first time ever I saw king cake at Kroger. It was a couple of weeks ago and I said I'd buy one closer to Mardi Gras but haven't been back to the store.

Here you go, OL. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't have known anything about King Cakes or anything at all Mardi Gras except that my brother married a girl born and raised in New Orlean's Garden District. Now I love all that NO food (she's a damm fine cook ;-) ).

DD, you are an angel! Even if some don't appreciate it for whatever reason, you've earned yourself a ticket to heaven!:clap_1:

I made a king cake once - it's a brioche (eggless) dough. I'm not much of a baker, so it didn't turn out well. So I started ordering king cakes from Haydel's Bakery in NOLA (800-442-1342 was the old number), but then our local Publix started having them. So I can just walk into Publix in Georgia and get a king cake.

Two weeks ago I bought andouille at Cocoon's (better than what I used to order from K-Paul's @ 1-800-4KPAULS) and made RB&R on Sunday. Delivered some to Beach Jacket, along with some beads and doubloons and a baby Jesus. She and her BF ate it for lunch today -- they couldn't wait until dinner. She said I had the perfect combination of firm beans with mushy beans. I take that as the ultimate compliment coming from someone who can taste one bite of something and tell you every herb in it, not to mention telling you when someone walks into a room exactly what fragrance they have on. :D
