I made a king cake once - it's a brioche (eggless) dough. I'm not much of a baker, so it didn't turn out well. So I started ordering king cakes from Haydel's Bakery in NOLA (800-442-1342 was the old number), but then our local Publix started having them. So I can just walk into Publix in Georgia and get a king cake.
Two weeks ago I bought andouille at Cocoon's (better than what I used to order from K-Paul's @ 1-800-4KPAULS) and made RB&R on Sunday. Delivered some to Beach Jacket, along with some beads and doubloons and a baby Jesus. She and her BF ate it for lunch today -- they couldn't wait until dinner. She said I had the perfect combination of firm beans with mushy beans. I take that as the ultimate compliment coming from someone who can taste one bite of something and tell you every herb in it, not to mention telling you when someone walks into a room exactly what fragrance they have on.
