i got rid of my big hair (think barbra streisand in "a star is born" but shoulder length) in about 1981. Here's how i wore it after that. Btw i stopped dying my hair while trying to get pregnant and during the pregnancy to avoid harming beach jacket. I just happened to be at my desk with this photo on it and the printer/scanner next to me.

But i do like big hair too. It works especially in texas!,

beautiful!

I started out the 80's short & spiky (only big thing here was the glasses & shoulda-ma-pads:lol:)

As big as it got was the late 80's grow out & fuzzy perm with the desired destination being Kelly McGillis' Top Gun 'do.

OMG, DuneAHH. Those big glasses. I had those too. Actually the bigger, the better. So I bought a pair of sunglasses and had them turned into Rx glasses so they'd be really big. LOL.

My first venture into shoulder pads was Norma Kamali. Those were some big ol' shoulder pads! :rotfl:

Norma Kamali!!! Those shoulder pads were almost as big as Elizabethan skirts! I was a dept. manager when she first hit the fashion scene. The shipping boxes were GINORMOUS! Trying to keep all those pads lined up and hanging semi-tidy was a stockwork nightmare!
Morning-noon-nite if anybody got spotted standing idle the mantra was "go work Kamali... then work it again":D

OH I wish I had the nerve to post some of my big hair.

I love those pictures of BR and Duneahh!!! they are all beautiful!

BR - the thing I appreciate about your picture is that the flat/straight/bang hair do is just about as classic as you can get. it really looks timeless. you don't look like a bad trend like some of us when we had realllllly big hair. DD described "rooster bangs" earlier and I knew exactly what she was saying!!! hopefully those won't be making a reappearance any time in the future.

yes, Duneahh - the Top Gun Kelly McGillis hairdo was quite the inspiration for us all! and that hair cut is kind of classic as well. I adore that photo of you!

Thanks. This was totally the idea of my hairdresser who was a family friend and who worked at a salon on Pharr Road in Atlanta which is no longer there. His dad was the architect for Daddy's businesses, and he went to Woodward Academy where my sis and bro went. He did my hair when I was hospitalized for two months due to going into early labor at 26 weeks (unviable at that time). He died of AIDS in 1989.
