TooFarTampa, you know what they say about good things being worth waiting for! Do you get Cottage Living magazine? I'm addicted to that one, and Coastal Living as well. We stayed at a cottage near Eastern Lake this past July and although it was new, it was a perfect reproduction! Only without the substandard electrics, noisy plumbing, and drafty windows. ;-) We loved it. And even though we stayed only a week, we met all the neighbors on the street, just like we would at home. :clap_1:

That's my ideal beach neighborhood, right there!!

Paula's got a good thing going too. Views and gulf front properties are lovely, but there's something to be said for beach proximity, friendliness and lack of bling. It's not that I mind when I HAVE bling, it just tends to attract a bunch of people I don't want to hang out with. Not, all, of course, but a bunch! It is the paradox of my life I think!

Let's see. Desperation is my plan for decluttering. the more I have, the more I have to take care of. And there are four of us in the house - my husband, me and 2 kids. I just keep picturing myself in 10, 20, 30 years having to move and I figured I'd throw everything out now that I'd throw out then. This strategy is really working so far. And I'm going room to room, doing one room at a time.

As for the office, I figure I have 10 years left to work. Whatever I don't plan on really using in the next 10 years or what I can't find on online either through work or the Internet, I'm getting rid of if it doesn't have sentimental value. I never throw anything away that has sentimental value. Also, moving my office required that I clean it so I had to clearly identify what I'm really going to accomplish in the next 10 years and get rid of everything that doesn't help me achieve those goals.

So, in short, I guess my strategy is:

1. throw out now (or give to salvation army or leave on the street for someone who can use them to pick up) anything that I'll have to throw out when it comes time to move (e.g., all those extra clay flower pots).
2. throw out any files that can easily be replaced with Internet research or that I really won't be likely to use within the next 10 years.
3. complete one room/space/box/closet completely at a time.
4. reward myself with a few extra minutes on SoWal.com!

And people definitely don't hang out with me for the "bling"! I think of too much bling leading to blue hair in old age...

Sueshore: I find this board and just about everyone on it motivating! It's where I go for ideas about everyday life, not just beach life. You're certainly very helpful with advice on many different threads!

Oh, and knowing that I needed room for that recliner in the office made me have to throw out a lot of stuff to make the room... It sure was worth it.

Ta Da!!!!! I am getting ready to do a small kitchden makeover (we have a room that is a kitchen and a den). New paint and countertops and new seating. I plan on doing this in Jan and Feb because I find those months to be so depressing. I thought I'd retreat to the beach, but Molly and her braces will keep me here. Move Teeth Move!!!

Great! Sounds like it's a great opportunity to get rid of any clutter, too, as part of the change!
