I noticed plenty of bait fish and larger fish coming right up to the beach in the last few days, and also saw a couple of sharks coming in. They are just following the food.

While it is rare, many of us have been reminded this week firsthand that sharks can and do swim just steps from shore...
Granted they don't want to eat us. But mistaken identity or an exploratory bite are well within the realm of possibility...
Be careful, all!!!
Sorry so preachy...

Hey All:
I know we don't want to scare tourists with shark stories but it is what it is-
There has been a lot of shark activity the last view days. Just before sunset today my family and I were hanging out on Grayton Beach and a guy fishing right next to us pulled in a shark...
It took a few of us to convince him to let it go. I ended up helping him get the thing back in the water. So I guess I can cross that one off my list of things to do as a SoWal Local...

Very cool.Glad you were able to talk the fisherman into release. Sharks are important to the eco-system. Nothing is stopping me from going swimming, with the exception of red flags. I'll just make sure I have no jewelry on, get out when I see game fish, and stay away from fisherman.
I'll watch over you from shore mangy - and wave frantically while making the shark sign with both hands on my head if I see any. ever had that happen while swimming out in the gulf? I have.![]()
