There is an excellent article in today's NY Times about consultants who will handle your insurance claims. These are people familiar with the biz via former employment there and they work for us, for an 8 percent fee of the total claim. Although we have had very responsive agents up until recently, this is a very attractive option for an absentee owner. The cost of travel and lost income from work could easily be more than the adjustor's fee. And it sure beats paying some attorney $500/hr. to send a $35/hr. paralegal over to a meeting! :dunno:

I have used a "public adjustor" in the last few years. I didn't even know such a person existed. I was THRILLED with the way had handled the claim and the timeliness (sp?).

I would not hesitate, no I would not deal with another adjustor again without him representing me.

What a lot of people don't know is these people are former adjustors, who worked for the insurance companies. The fees they charge are more than made up in additional moneys that they collect. Plus, they spend all the time, not you, in dealing with the insurance companies.

I had tried to handle a claim for almost a month before I hired the public adjustor. He pointed out things that I never would have thought of.

If you would like his name, send me an e-mail through this site, (at least I think that can be done), and I will provide his name and number. He is local. If a private message can't be sent, administrator, please post instructions on how to give his name and number out.

HIGHLY recommend hiring a private adjustor!
