Earlier, President George W. Bush said in a television interview that the United States could take care of itself. "I'm not expecting much from foreign nations because we hadn't asked for it. I do expect a lot of sympathy and perhaps some will send cash dollars. But this country's going to rise up and take care of it," Bush told ABC's "Good Morning America."
What a master of foreign policy. How embarrassing. :bang:

Man it is one thing to proud and not think to ask for help but it is another to brag that we do not need anything but sympathy. From what I see, we could use some bags of greenbacks and some consulting on how to deal with a natural disaster big time. Sometimes in certain situations it is ok to put your hat in your hand and admit you been whipped and take the charity from others. Fine line we must walk as a nation at the top. We do not want anyone thinking we are whipped and that we are ripe to be taken advantage of (can you say OPEC) :dunno:

IMO "W" needs to drop the ego and pride bit and cry like everyone else. He looks like he is in emotional pain and he needs to let it out based on what I saw today on his bit with Diane Sawyer.

Oh maybe that was just constipation  Sorry I thought a little joke amongst all this chin scratchin would feel good.

I agree...IMHO....the world needs to see this country be humble and ask for help. Sure, there are lots of countries out there that may be enjoying this in some perverted way and many might just refuse our plea for help. But, in the end it just might help them realize we are not some huge "super power" that has a superiority complex. This is their chance to step up to the plate and show the world how important it is to help each other out.

I wake up each morning still hoping that the situation in NOLA is being sorted out. I, too am frustrated by the lack of preparation shown by all levels of the government. I have continued to give the benefit of the doubt to these agencies...but I am stunned that things keep going from bad to worse. Ted Koppel drilled the FEMA director last night and I had to leave my husband to watch by himself. I couldn't take the party line talk and the excuses of "We didn't realize it was going to be this bad!" Well, it is and what are you doing about it!!!!! Even Ted apologized for his demeanor towards the man, but hell, someone needs to answer these questions. But... before they answer, I pray someone takes control of this dire situation and gets some order restored. I continue to be proud of my country, but this is not a shining moment in our history. God Bless us all.

I hear you. Unfortunately, politicians tend to make poilitics more complicated than than this simple answer. :bang:

Not only should we accept and ask for help, neither of which have been done to my understanding, on a National level, but I think the Mayor of New Orleans was extremely slow in sending the SOS. LA National Guard, and other states NG, should have been in place, even if in boats, by the end of the day Monday. The Mayor should have expected the worst, given the make up of the many criminals that are in the city, and the situation with the city being under sea level. Is he an idiot? If the National Guard had been in place in strong numbers, perhaps we would not have people without water and food right now. :bang:

I am still perplexed that we can pilot bombers through places with missles shooting at the pilots, but we can handle a hoard of thugs with pistols, rifles, or shotguns to get needed survival supplies to our own citizens?:bang:
I hope all of you who want the Federal Gov't to increase in size and run more programs, will remember how the gov't has handled, make that not handled, this event.

Oh, but the Bush administration thinks they are handling it just fine since it is a "temporary event" you know.... :pissed: :pissed:

I don't think those poor "inconvenienced" people see it quite that way.

What are you smoking these days!!!!?? I'm still waiting on news of our "friends" sending help? Anyone?

I happily stand corrected....just read on the news that many countries are offering help and Ms. Rice says no offer of help will be turned down! IMHO, this is a great thing not only for the help, but for the world to see we are a humbler nation than might have been perceived.
