Really, you don't even need snopes if the email says, "send this to everyone in the known universe", or "this has been confirmed by so and so", or "don't let this happen to you", or has a bunch of capital letters or has a bunch of exclamation marks, or has a subject line that could be straight from the Fox News crawl.

Emails like this clog the internet pipes and can be just as bad as a virus in that regard. The rule of thumb: don't forward anything and give us all a break.

While I'm on a rant - don't open or send any attachement unless you know exactly what it is and who it's from. Don't bother with these files, just delete them - powerpoint pps wmv, mp3, doc, excel, mpeg ..... I really don't want to see a 5 mb movie of a deer beating up a guy with a rifle. It is a beutiful movie about justice, but I've seen it already.

Now any good virus writer who is worth their weight, will create a new virus named, Life is Beautiful, knowing that people know it is not a virus. Surprise! Here's a random thought -- What if Snopes.com is hoax? lol
