George Harrison is the only truly safe Beatle. Paul causes too much confrontation regarding the best Beatle. Ringo was along for the ride. John was full of crap.

But why would we have a US holiday for a bloody Brit?

For the same reason Jesus looks like a Norwegian in the Bible....to make us feel good.

Why would we have an October US holiday for an Italian?

Because he brought the first spaghetti plants to America. Spaghetti farming is a difficult but proud profession.

Because a long time ago people thought he discovered 'Murrica. Duh!!

I'm happy the People's Collective of Seattle changed it. I think you should move there and join the fun. I can't imagine this little parcel of Southern Alabama changing it. Probably just to piss you off. ;-)

There's an "absurd conclusion" if there ever was one! Btw, you started this little religion bashing thing, not me. I had no intention of this thread taking such a turn, but you asked for it, you got it!
Oops, missed this one in all the fun.

I found the irony overwhelming that you can feel pain for those killed more than 500 years ago, but a small child dying in a church is a point of humor.

Go figure. I guess I'm just not deep enough. Nighty night.

I call BS, everyone knows Yoko broke up the Beatles.

In every major religion, it's always a woman that eff's it up for everyone else.

I never said I felt an ounce of pain for anyone anywhere in this thread. The original post was to spur discussion as to whether Columbus Day is or is not a celebration of genocide, perhaps intended to question whether or not Columbus was worthy of having a holiday in his honor. For some odd reason you tried to turn it into something personal, regional, political, and religious. The issue stands on its own regardless of my thoughts on the matter or my previous posting history.
