Actually, I've often wondered why more dems don't embrace the right to bear arms more often. Even though I'm an indy and believe in public ed and that health care at an affordable price should be the norm, you'll pry my gun out of my cold, dead hands. After you've taken my chocolate, of course.
Didn't the NRA recently drop a load of cash on the dems?
I think most Dems (and many Republicans too) are happy with the guns they have/can legally obtain and don't think an AK-47 or bazooka are necessary items.
I worry much less about the improbable scenario of the government taking away all guns then I do about the real danger of crazy folks and homegrown terrorists being able to easily slaughter many people.
The Founding Fathers and early Americans had many rules about who could and could not have guns* - so I don't find it a betrayal of our history to legally bar wack-a-doos and convicted felons from owning them or show a modicum of common sense about it.
*Basically only white protestant males who owned property

Any extreme Right wing group that decides to name themselves Tea Partiers in the first place cannot inspire that much fear on the Left. Now, if they change their name to Tea Party Nazi's, I actually may need to, as Sarah Palin put it, "reload."

Why bother, thanks to the right wings interpretation of the 2nd Amendment I can go out and buy something capable of firing more bullets in a second that you could load into a rifle in a day.
