Wrong!

My children were interrupted today when their classes all had to assemble outside to listen to a sales pitch and watch other children get prizes. Great use of class time.

They may not be infiltrating classrooms, but make no mistake Boosterthon members are interrupting class time.

Wild thought....instead of constant fundraisers, why not consider appropriate state and local funding for our schools? I know, crazy idea.

Also a crazy thought, keep fundraising activities outside of the classroom... last time I toured a local public school, the excuse for so little art, PE, music, second languages, etc was that they didn't have time during school hours for much outside of Florida Statutes requiring so many hours in core curriculum (math and reading / test taking). I hope fundraising stays where it belongs - outside of the classroom, with the exception of student and family involvement in meaningful events that benefit the school.

I am already appalled by the short school day and poor results from our schools, but fundraising that takes time out of the school day and makes a profit for private companies is ridiculous.

I would gladly pay higher taxes to give more funding to schools and hire better teachers. Any community that doesn't invest in education and its young people is doomed.

However, the stories I am hearing about certain teacher's behavior, drugs, and what passes for education in our schools has me very worried.
