I attended the BCC meeting this morning and was pleased that the Commissioners decided to enforce the new sign ordinance and let the courts do their jobs as well. The commission voted to obtain a parcel on 83 between Harbeson Field and the Health Dept. for additional parking which will help the Health Dept. as well as provide parking for events at Harbeson Field and the Fairgrounds after hours. They also voted to negotiate to purchase two parcels along 30-A that combined could provide about 500 parking places as they sit with more possible with planning. This is good news indeed. There was also direction to staff to seek grant money to fund a mass transit system beginning with shuttles between the courthouse and the annex and then branching out east west on 98 and 30-A and other points. This initiative, combined with the proposed parking and the possibilities or parking north of 98 with a shuttle to employers could provide needed relief for the traffic problems along 30-A. Hopefully this is not just another "study" but the beginning of real action to solve our issues.
