wow! It must be good.

My son is still dieing to see it when he gets a chance. I'm pretty positive this will have a teen cult following.

.
You know, I wonder. It's interesting; a friend of mine who's also seen it twice said she spent half the movie the first time around trying to figure out exactly who the movie was for. She went in, I think, assuming it was directed toward the teen crowd but found the angle so different from what she expected. She finally had a moment of realizing the movie is really more aimed at "grownups," and I agree. Not that teens couldn't enjoy it and relate to it, but it's no "Napoleon Dynamite," if that makes any sense.

I totally agree that it is aimed for an adult crowd; like "Knocked Up" is supposed to be. My son is more mature than most 17 yr olds (& he has NOT seen Knocked Up as far as I know ). But you'd be surprised at how many teens WANT to see this because so many do relate to the teen pregnancy dilemma (I mean, there's an on-campus nursery and daycare!). But as far as he's concerned, he's "interested" in the topic and doesn't think of it as a comedy but knows it's supposed to be "cute." There was an review written in their HS paper. He said the author completely missed the point of the movie expressing, "hey, this wasn't a very funny movie!"

Like I said before, I hate the fact that this is so prevalent & teens relate too easily but also know that it will open up dialogue w/in families. In our case I know it will.

ALSO, part of the teen attraction are the actors, Michael Cera has a huge cult following. So the directors seemed to have taken that into consideration! It's marketed to teens and adults.

I loved reading all of your thoughts on this movie, and now can't wait to see it. I heard the NPR interview of the young gal actor (can't remember name), and it sounded really different.

without ever seeing it, I think I can say that I hope you will all let your teens see it. it just seems the more they can learn the better - whether it helps them make good choices, or helps them get through a hard situation they find themselves in. its life.

I may be wrong though.

Rapunzel - your movie review was just so... I don't know... excellent. you need to be our official movie reviewer.

I went with my 13 yo son, his friend and his friend's mom (yep - 2 mothers and 2 teenage sons at the same movie at the same time - on purpose!) We all loved the movie. On the car ride home, it opened up a nice opportunity to have the "talk" again, and for me to reinforce to my son how important open communication is. Usually this type of conversation results in shuffling of feet, embarassment, etc. That day, it did not - heck we'd just spent an hour and a half dealing with it from Juno and her boyfriend's eyes (and her family's, the adoptive family's, her friend's and everyone else's). In my opinion, it was a positive experience for us both.

President's Day finally awarded us some time to see this movie! Sam had asked a few time to see it with friends but I really wanted to see it with her. I'm glad we waited and saw it together. We laughed out loud several times and cried...I cried more...I even cried later that night talking about it. The acting was incredible, the casting amazing, the writing so fresh. I love how the parents handled it too. I'm sure it will stay with me for a long time. I don't think it glamorized teen pregnancy but it did make you realize it's not the end of the world if it does happen.

The actress in this movie, Ellen Page, was in another older movie we rented recently. She was excellent as the character she played. Wow ... she is talented ... played the part so well .... So, it's called Hard Candy ... but be warned it is difficult to watch and not a movie to watch with the kids and maybe not with men .... it was intense ... just wanted to share ... haven't seen Juno yet, but hopefully we can get over to see it soon ... from what we can tell, all the movies she's been in look very intriguing ....

Hard Candy is an incredible movie, but you're right... it can be very difficult to watch. Definitely worth watching, though. (Do NOT watch this with your children. I don't want to give away the plot, but there is a lot of intense, somewhat graphic violence.) Ellen Page is fierce, and I can't wait to see what she does next.

She has 2 movies in the works right now...one directed by Drew Barrymore about derby girls.
