hello there krafty! tell us more about N Dakota. sounds like a real winter wonderland! I would like to experience such a winter for about a week...

Hello.

Back home safe and sound. It really is amazing to see -28 on the car thermometer and feel the frigid air when running from car to building. But it was actually a very pretty day and drive. When it's this cold very small ice crystals are suspended in the air and they glisten in the sun. But just knowing how dangerous it would be to be stranded makes one very happy to be home.

And, yes, the house (esp. the NW corner) has a drafty feel when it's this cold so a down comforter is especially nice to have. (though it makes it hard to crawl out of bed!)

Tootsie, I think a week of this weather would be a very long seven days for you, but at a nice 0-20 above you'd never want to leave ND! And keep in mind, we have nice summers.

I'm not made of such stern stuff. We just like the changes of the season (and can't afford a second home at the beach) and thanks to Cil's africam and my i-photos of SoWall I have lots of good daydreaming material when it's too much effort to go anywhere. And spring is around the corner......

High temps around here today were maybe around 50F degrees and that is cold enough for me. Keep that cold air up there, please. Here is a little Sunshine for you

Thanks for the Sunshine, SJ! It brightens my day!

We have one more REALLY more cold night tonight and then the warming trend begins. We will be above zero (during the day, at least) by Tues. You mentioned that 50 was cold enough for you. It's all relative. Compared to the -28 in the morning, the -6 in the afternoon felt pretty good. That"s a 22
degree increase!

Yesterday on the way to the tournament, we were visiting and scraping the frost forming on the passenger windows and we commented that the temp. could rise 50 degrees and it would still be only 22 above zero.

This year we didn't have any snow at Christmas, the first time since 1945. However, we came back on Jan. 2 from our golf trip in southern Utah to 18 inches of snow and we've gotten some more since then. Our average season snowfall here in the northern great plains is 38-50, inches depending on location. There are lots of snowier places to live than here.

You would have loved 1997, the year of the big Grand Forks flood. We had 11 blizzards and almost 100" of snow. Since then, though, the winters have been back to normal or more mild than usual.

Maybe you don't want to jump right in to moving here, but a visit to ND sound like it's in your future! :clap_1:
