My dad and his wife went! I know she purchased a fancy hat for the event! I didn't get to watch it on tv, I was too busy running kids around and working in the yard! Did you get your mint julep recipe?!!

No. I picked up hubby at Hartsfield from one of his many trips as a consultant in Australia. We watched the derby at a Mexican restaurant and drank Texas margaritas.

Dang I just saw this- sorry! It has been a busy weekend here with Artsquest, senior prom, and Derby!

It had been many years since I made a mint julep- honestly, they are not my favorite but you buy them at the track and keep the souvenir glasses. Yesterday we had a big drink dispenser of simple syrup, lots of fresh mint, lots of bourbon (duh), and my friend had her souvenir glasses from over the years. Oh yeah, crushed ice- very key (another friend purchased at Goatfeathers).

I did learn new ways with juleps- my friend and her sister are known as The Big Bush Girls- their juleps have LOTS of mint garnish sticking out of the top- we had lots of bush going yesterday....:lolabove:

Muddle 6 - 8 mint leaves in the bottom of a glass with 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon of bourbon. Pack with crushed ice. Add 2 oz of bourbon. Pack with more crushed iced. Must have a straw. This drink can last an hour. Not too late to drink mint juleps - especially if you have mint in your yard. People are going to sage and basil for cocktails too.
Since JD TN Honey is now more available, I made some with that instead of the sugar and bourbon.
My daughter has chocolate mint in her yard and used that with TN Honey.
Went to the Derby this year. Tickets from work. We were 8 rows from the rail, section 120. Looked up to our right - the Twin Spires. Across the track to our right, the winner's circle.
Since the seats were so awesome, we stayed there most of the day - left long enough to lose some money.
Record crowd. More than 160,000. Wonderful day.

Thanks for the recipe! If I had seats like that, I 'd definitely stay all day and soak it all in.
