Per Tootsie's request:
The concert was at the New Orleans Arena which is next door to the Superdome. Neither Mr. IBD nor I have been in this facility before so we were excited to see how the acoustics were going to sound.
We arrived when the warm up band for LS was playing. We had seats in the 3rd level which is fine with us b/c we like to sit and listen to the band, not stand up on the floor with a bunch of drunks, and boy were there some drunks.

I do like to be on the floor sometimes but generally in smaller venues.
After finding our seats we decided to look around. The Arena was very clean as well as the outside. We bought some Daiquiris and walked around for people watching. There was such an assortment of folks. Old old hippie LS lovers, bikers, college kids, middle age peeps like us and even families with kids under the age of 10

.(not something that I would submit my child to but to each his own) For all you smokers out there the smoking area was actually nice (coming from a non-smoker) it was on a concrete platform that connects the superdome and the arena. It was a rather large area so you were not stuffed like sardines.
We found our way back to our seats and LS began. They played all the classics (even Free Bird:roll

which brought back lots of growing up in South ALabama memories. My favorite song/video that they did was Simple Man. It was a tribute to the troops. If you dont know the words, read below...
Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say.
And if you do this
It will help you some sunny day.
Take your time... dont live too fast,
Troubles will come and they will pass.
Go find a woman and youll find love,
And dont forget son,
There is someone up above.
(chorus)
And be a simple kind of man.
Be something you love and understand.
Be a simple kind of man.
Wont you do this for me son,
If you can?
Forget your lust for the rich mans gold
All that you need is in your soul,
And you can do this if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.
(chorus)
Boy, dont you worry... youll find yourself.
Follow you heart and nothing else.
And you can do this if you try.
All I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.
Mr. IBD and I left to take a break and get stocked up before KR played. We wanted to beat the rush. Good thing as when LS quit playing that place almost emptied out.
We got to watch all the stage hands set up the stage which was pretty cool. Then all of a sudden Journey's song
Don't stop believin came on. It was time.....
The movie was a guy looking for Kid he went through several scenarios : hot chicks in bathtub together, hot chick in his bed, Waffle House (thought of you SWGB), jail and then the guy found Kid Rock in front of the Cathedral at Jackson Square (in NO) The crowd went wild.
Songs were great, he played everything off the new cd but Jackson, Miss. Some highlights were:
Several "support the troops" tributes which were very sad, but tastefully done. They did rile the crowds up quite a bit.
Tribute to Johnny Cash
When he was singing the song
Cowboy he stopped and sang the Dukes Of Hazzard theme song in the middle of it. Complete with pictures of Uncle Jesse all the way down to Cletus.

Rev Run from Run DMC came on stage with KR and they sang a bunch of old classic Run DMC songs such as
you be illin...

Sheryl Crow came on state and sang her duet Picture, with RD. That was a nice surprise.
KR played pretty much every instrument on stage, he even scratched some vinyl for us old folks...
The encore song was of course his song "New Orleans" The best part was when Rebirth Brass Band came on stage and played with him

All in all the concert was great. I liked that fact that there were so many different genres of music: Rock, Country, Rap, Gospel, Blues and Funk. I would certainly go and see this again.
Oh, and I did see a
few Rebel flags....
Here is a blog entry about the concert, wonder why S. Crow was not mentioned.
