I can not go to places like SeaWorld. To me, penning up orcas and dolphins is like putting a person in a bathtub for their entire life, and then expected to put on a show on command when the shower curtain is drawn.
I've learned much more about animal behavior in the wild. We go whale watching every year and every year I learn something new. I have seen a rare right whale and her baby come up to our boat to investigate. They don't even know for sure where right whales go to mate, that is how elusive and rare they are. I have sat on the beaches in Cape Cod and watched seals fishing and interacting with each other; all within yards of them. I did not force it. The only place I went to that I appreciated was Gulf Word because they only keep animals that can not be returned to the wild.
Sure, we can not always see an Orca up and close here in the States, but I feel that much more can be done to bring awareness of these creatures without penning them. Humans are the ones who pose the most danger to them in the wild while trying to avoid oil spills, the commercial routes of boats, etc; and there should be a concerted conservation effort by the international community to help Orcas and other marine life.
