For years I have been using Mineral Makeup. However, I have grown tired of the mess it makes. I am a hugger and every time I hug someone I get my makeup all over them. Also, my vanity is a hot mess with the stuff. It is virtually impossible not to make a mess while using it.

I am looking for some suggestions for foundation that:

  1. Is a matte finish. I have an oily complexion and love a matte finish.
  2. Stays on all day without getting shiny in the afternoon.
  3. Won't rub off when I hug people.
Any suggestions? Probably most of you who are lucky enough to live at the beach don't even wear it, I wouldn't either.

Help.

Thank you.

Kathy, I am make-uply challenged! I can't wear a lot because even at my age I look like I'm playing dress up with my mommy's make up. And I too am a hugger...I have found what works best for me is Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer from Clinique. It is tinted just enough to even out skin tones without looking like I painted my face on and got it all over my shirt :) And to keep the shinnies away Almost Powder Makeup. Go and ask for a sample and give it a try. (both have a spf of 15)

What a timely post!! I have foundation on my list of crap to purchase before I leave. I'm anxious to see the responses!! I know what you mean about the mineral stuff. Gave that up long ago.

I Don't wear make up now that i don't work outside the home. A man told me once that women wear make up for other women, because most men don't even like it. I think he's kind of right.

I don't use it. I have very fair, but kind of ruddy skin--I blush and redden easily, and foundations (even the really good ones) just seem to sit on top of my skin... I've never used a foundation on a day-to-day basis.

Instead, I start with Eucerin Daily Face Lotion (with SPF 30):

Then I just cover spots and undereye circles (I don't sleep well) with Benefit's Boi-ing concealer (I like the concealer/eye brightener duo):

and then follow with a good, pressed powder to banish the shine--I really love "Sexy Mama" by TheBalm when I start my day (it's not really packaged to carry with):

and Lorac's Translucent Touch-Up Powder to carry in my purse to powder up during the day:

Good luck finding what you need!

First of all, forget foundation. But find a tinted moisturizer that has just enough coverage with minerals and most of all spf sun protection. This is the one I am loving from Aveda. It is a mineral product but within a liquid substance. Love this to death. It is plenty of coverage - in fact, I only use a dot. It is NOT matte finish. I also have the aveda mineral pressed powder in case I need a dab to set eyeshadow or whatever.

Darlene - some tinted moisturizers aren't quite enough. This one definitely is. I'm sure there are other brands just as good, I just happened to give this one a try and liked it so much I'm sticking with it.

I like Bobbi Brown. Used to wear the oil-free, but now I need the foundation that's not oil-free due to dry skin.

It matches my complexion so perfectly that I don't get a chin line, so don't have to transition it onto my neck. So I don't get makeup on people when I hug them. Of course, I'm tall, so when I hug someone, my face isn't below their neck.

I'm also a fan of Clinique's tinted moisturizer (over concealer for under-eye bags, etc). Then use a clean big brush in circular motions over it for that 'sheer/matte/mineral polish look'. I never liked wearing foundation and this evens out my ruddy skin tone sufficiently but lightly.

I tried the mineral stuff and went back to Clinique because for some reason the mineral stuff seems to make me break out (especially near deep creases).

WHEN I wear makeup, it's for myself. Every hetero man I've ever known swears they don't like makeup... but I've also known plenty who chase after chicks who wear ALOT of makeup! Snort :)

I wear makeup because it makes me look/photograph better.

Hetero men like make-up, they just don't like waiting for you to put it on, fix it, all the space it takes up, and how scary you may look when it's off.
