$12.50 is minimum wage when one has to pay $2.50+ per gallon to commute into SoWal daily from the closest 'affordable' living area. The lifeguards should at least be pulling in upwards of $20 per hour.

Well since you started this train of thought, let's take it further:

What should the minumum wage for south Walton be?

-Starting with the Florida minimum wage rate of $6.40/hour and factoring in a Cost of Living Index.

Or what should that rate be assuming, as you say, that minimum wage workers are commuting from Freeport or DeFuniak Springs?

$20/ hour sounds a little arbitrary, I want to hear a line of reasoning behind a figure.

Wow, I lifeguarded for years during summer breaks in high school/college and we only got paid minimum wage.

Will the test require prospective guards to run in slow motion down the beach, blond hair-a-flying ala Baywatch?

I just keep thinking about David Hasslehoff and his cameo in the Spongebob movie!

I am thinking of a different blonde in a different movie. :D I may have to go watch the tryouts myself. Hubba, hubba.

By the way, Ms Lucille's Gossip Parlor is also hiring with average pay around $11 per hour and you do not have to give mouth to mouth. :funn:

I guess you have never had to give mouth to mouth and had the victim puke in your mouth? :puke:
True...Never did it. I'm certified though. I'm sure I'd screw it up anyway.

You're right...it was an arbitrary number...but I like your challenge. Let me look at it and get back to you. In the meantime, do you have a wage in mind, or are you planning on sticking to the $6.40 per hour as a living wage for the area?
