I should know better than to chime in. Guess not.

The idea that u just told those who choose to not be indoctrinated in organized religion that the way they should educate themselves and that the manner in which to do it is via the bible--- not that is really funny...

Well Geo, the reason I said some people should educate themselves is because they made ignorant statements earlier in the thread. The statement was that all these Christians are going to be surprised when they are turned away at Heaven's gate. Therefore, yes they should read the Bible to understand that you aren't required to be sinless or perfect. It's impossible. That's why Jesus died for all our sins. I just don't understand why these certain individuals are even commenting in this thread. Why do these people even care about what is being discussed? The question was can anyone recommend a church? Did one single person say everyone should believe in God or insult anyone else's religion? No, they did not. Do these people really think their hatred and insults towards Christians are going change one person? I'm still going to church in the morning with my family. I'm still going to pray before I go to work. I'm still going to pray with my daughter when I tuck her in bed every night. I'm still going to raise my daughter and future son in the church and help them know more about the love and forgiveness of God and Jesus. And I'm going to pray for those who don't believe in him. Whether they want me to or not. No one has disputed the fact that you can believe in whatever you want. If you really want to be respected, then maybe be a positive influence in your community instead of insulting people every time you hear the words God, Jesus, or Church.

I agree that this thread shouldn't have turned into a religious discussion. If anyone wants to discuss religion they can do it on another thread. Don't discount all the helpful people who have posted on here.

I couldn't agree more. If there truly is a Heaven, come judgment day a lot of Christians are going be shocked when they are turned away from the pearly gates.

Poppy didn't condemn all christians as you suggest. You are overreacting. He wrote "a lot of christians" . . . I imagine he meant people who claim to be christians and hide behind the label.

Whoops here I am discussing religion on this thread but I'll make one last point. I don't think it's hatred of christians from posters as you claim. I think it's more like disdain or ridicule. No need to act so persecuted.

Here's what I think u r missing. For those people in this country who don't subscribe to organized religion--- most didn't get there out of ignorance, a lack of understanding of your bible or any shortage of education. They broke loose of indoctrination later in life after studying your religion and others and having a personal revelation that it's man made nonsense and the world would be better off without it. Some folks remain spiritual but don't presume to know with certainty the mysteries of the universe and certainly don't shove their beliefs down other's throats.

Think of it this way- what would u think of a Muslim who told u that u were ignorant and hateful because u didn't subscribe to his/her beliefs and that u needed to educate yourself on the kuran and that he would pray to allah for you? Let me guess- that would be a very different situation. Because that religion is wrong, has a book that has lots of really coocoo stuff in it and that religion has caused much of the violence and wars throughout history. Hmmmmm....

I presume lots of people will get offended and I will get a pm telling me that this isn't the place for these discussions. That's fine. I don't think I will reply again.

But u need to understand that lots of wonderful people in this community and on this earth don't agree with u. They live with a sound moral compass without the need for religion. They are just fine and don't want your prayers. And just because they don't buy it or because they challenge or question your paradigm doesn't mean they are hateful.

Going outside. It's beautiful. Later.

This book looks like a buy for me. The word spirituality i believe is used more figuratively. It's about achieving a certain state of mind without turning to mysticism. I'm sure it's no more charitible to Deepak than it is to Pat Robertson.

“Uber-atheist Sam Harris is getting all spiritual. In his new book, Waking Up: A Guide to Spirituality Without Religion, the usually outspoken critic of religion describes how spirituality can and must be divorced from religion if the human mind is to reach its full potential. . . . But there is plenty in Waking Up that will delight Harris’ most militant atheist readers.” (Religion News Service)

I say live and let live unless someone is harming you directly. However, I must warn all posters on this forum.

NEVER NEVER discuss raking the seaweed off the beach or you will have your *&&* handed to you. Religion and Politics get some action but nothing like the raking seaweed drama.

And your point is...??? Did I try to convert you? Did I shove my Christian beliefs down your throat? Did I say you are a bad person? NO, I DID NOT. Now had I jumped in the middle of a conversation/post of a Muslim family that were new to the area and asking if anyone knew of a local mosque they could visit and I started saying your religion is man made and the world would be better off without it, such as YOU(Geo) just clearly stated while insulting my religion (Christianity), then yes I would expect people to call my statements ignorant or uneducated. So actually it would be the same situation Geo. But that did not happen, did it? A few people saw that church and Christianity were being discussed so they felt they needed to be insulting. One person did it at 3am. Sorry Geo for using the word hatred. After reading your comments about my religion I guess love and acceptance would be more appropriate?

The way I see it, the original poster said he was looking for something non-denominational, which leaves him open to suggested alternatives to, faith god, actual brick and mortar churches, Jesus, Allah, Buddah, etc.
