Mamie's Closing
One of DeFuniak Springs major sources of news, information and recreation has closed after 47 years of service. A landmark, Mamie's Restaurant, has closed. The restaurant is current owned by Mamie's granddaughter. They are citing higher costs as part of the reason for the close.
Mamie's sits on the southeast corner of Highway 90 and 9th Street. The restaurant has provided food and possibly more important, a place for locals to meet and discuss the issues of the day over coffee. The restaurant has seen some changes, but basically remains the same after the many years.
This may not be a big deal to many SoWallers, but Mamie's was one of those things that you never expect to change.
