I love manatees too. This was taken a couple of months ago at Crystal River. The first time I saw them in their own habitat. Here at the Columbus Zoo they take in the injured manatees and nurse them back to health and then release them. Before Crystal River I had never seen one without scars! It's sad to see what boat motors can do.

Contact the "Save the Manatee" organization at 800-432-5646. They will direct you to whom you should speak about this particular situation. They may already be aware of it. Good luck.

Thanks JR, I will call them as well.

I saw one in the gulf a few years ago and have heard of reports in the bay near Destin but not near PW. I didn't know they wanted any reports of sea cows that weren't injured.

The Fish and Wildlife guy I spoke to yesterday said to report all sightings immediately. The number is now in my cell phone! He also said that because our waters are warmer we should see more of the manatees. Warmer waters..scary!

We went to see them as well at Crystal River. Could not believe the amount of cabbage they could consume. They are so sweet and cute!!

Very interesting article from today's St. Petersburg Times.
Manatees endangered no more?

TFT, it was a very interesting article. Thank you for sharing that link.

I will quote a line from it ""There are a lot of people who feel there are way too many manatees," state wildlife commissioner Richard Corbett, a Tampa mall developer, said in 2004."

Excuse me?? WTF.....Way too many??? How many are there supposed to be for their liking? Some people freaking kill me with their attitudes. It is because they can't drive their boats wide open in known manatee habitats....give me a break.

 Can you tell I am in a bad mood.
