this is an interesting development. the mayors say if Congress won't do something about the assault weapons, they will....they are talking of boycotting Glock until the company stops selling them to people on the street....

NYPD should boycott Glocks if they won't stop selling magazines to civilians--Editorial - NYPOST.com
Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch says The Post's call for police departments to stop buying Glock sidearms until the company stops general sales of 30-round magazines -- like the one used in the Tucson massacre -- is "an excellent idea."

Indeed, he said, he's already spoken to his own chief of police about making it happen.

"I've been to too many funerals of young people killed in gun violence," said Finch. "We have to restrict these powerfully violent weapons."

it might be interesting to see a poll of other Law Enforcement officers to see what their opinion is...

Yep - money speaks louder (and faster) than legislation.

I think this would work with cable television News and talk radio and reality shows etc....the question becomes why do so many people choose to fill their personal space with such junk? Years ago I read a book called The Plug-in Drug about the horrors of television fare/watching...its general premise is probably even more important today.

I Would not want to see police forced to carry an inferior weapon for mayors to make a political statement. Glock is popular with police because it is the most effective, reliable pistol out there.
You can buy extended magazines for most popular pistols.
I am not against limiting mag capacity, I just don't think changing police weapons is a good idea.
I am not a big advocate for glocks in the hands of civilians. While all firearms are dangerous, Glock is king of accidental discharge! That very trait is why it is so fast and effective. Weaponry for police should only be based on what is the best for the job.

The article said that Glock was one of 3 manufacturers they use, so still getting guns isn't an issue, but favoritism/singling out one manufacturer is.

in the interview that I saw (with the Mayor) he said he was working closely with his law enforcement officials...and nothing would be done that would limit their ability to carry out their jobs...while he did not say it outright in the portion of the interview I saw/heard, the implication was that the LEOs were onboard with this idea, if not the originators of it.
