Wondering if there are any of you Tennessee folks out there who might have some info about a city called McMinnville. We heard some people refer to it as McMethville .... wanted to get an opinion from someone who may know if meth is really as big of a deal as this person portrayed?

Don't have any specific info on McMinnville. It has a lot of tree and landscape shrubbery growers so has a large immigrant population. I'm not saying that contributes to the meth problem .
We live in a small rural area in West Tn and meth is a big problem here. Our local paper reports a meth bust almost weekly.
On a lighter note, I saw a couple of off duty local police who were wearing t shirts that said "Meth, if you cook it, we'll come"

My family lives an hour or so from McMinnville and I asked if meth was a bigger problem there than other places. It is the same all over.
Watch the local news. How many Meth Labs have been busted around here this week?

Thanks for checking into things for us -- that's really kind of you.
Your response is kind of what we expected -- it seems to be a real problem cross the country --- very unfortunate indeed!

Again, many thanks

Thanks so much for sharing your info. It does seem to be an issue in many small rural towns across the country. Certainly, some folks in the big cities must be doing it too -- sign of the times we suppose.

Many areas of the country that are very remote and rural have had issues with Meth, however I do think it has improved since the removal of Sudafed from the shelves of pharmacies.

Are you considering a move there? or visiting?

.
The availability of anhydrous ammonia in farming areas also plays a part. Several years back my BIL, who is a volunteer firefighter in a small Illinois town, had to take special training for entering homes because of the increase in meth related home fires. It is scarier than it used to be as they don't know what they're walking into.

Rita is correct, rural areas definitely have a larger problem. Also in East Tn. as with moonshine back in the old days, many areas are very remote and hard to access for law enforcement. Also due to the population of these areas, they are extremely understaffed for the amount of area they must cover.

Here is a website that will let you check for Meth cases. Warren county, McMinnville, is one of the highest as are many of their neighbors.

Hamilton county (Chattanooga) had one of the highest.

Hamilton had 107
Warren had 68
Monroe had 53
McMinn had 48
Bradley had 71

Tennessee Meth Offender Registry Database

It is interesting that the more populated cities areas of Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville had fewer cases than the smaller rural areas.

Here is a map of counties.

This article has some insightful info:

As Deli Love stated if you read the Walton Sun, you will see that the north part of Walton county has a problem too.
