Around here, 16 and 17 year-olds can only get married with parental permission. For anyone to marry under 16, even with parental permission, the judge has to give permission too.

Wasn't always that way. My grandmother married at 15. For the same reason that she married at 15, she forbade my mom to marry before she was 20.

This thread is too good. A good subject and funn responses. I think the age for marriage should be no younger than 20. (Quite frankly I truly believe that it should be 30...one's maturity is not fully developed until that time, but who am I to say...I got married at 1 month over 19, was married for 29 years and am VERY happy to be divorced now)

Do they have any minimum age requirements for civil unions?

Why is this any of the court's business, by the way? Marriage isn't a government-sanctioned thing. It's religious. Government needs to butt out of it altogether.
