"Jonathan Armbruster, an engineer with Taylor Engineering Inc., said the parking lot now is supported by concrete pilings, making it more structurally sound and less prone to damage when hurricanes or other severe weather phenomena rip through the area."

We usually stay at the Maravilla condos just up the street from there. i was glad that the parking lot was being fixed. I hated walking by Pompono Joes and seeing cars parked on both sides of the road every night.

Nothing in the papers this morning, but of course it didn't happen across the street from their office, so I'm not holding my breath.

What a waste. When will we realize that this is SAND, it can't support heavy structures?

Saw it yesterday. Appears the concrete top layer heaved up and cracked, not a collapse.

Poppy's correct, it has not collapsed. It is open on the east side of the restroom (Pompano Joe's side) and there will be some repairs made to the area around the restroom in the following days. It does not appear to be structural, but most likely the thin concrete topping.

By the way, the structure is concrete pile supported and thus the sand is not holding the structure up. Sand was holding up the old design.

I understand the engineering, but let's look at it after the next tropical storm grazes the area and the pilings are exposed.
