Just curious to hear more comments on Mitt. I have a good suspicion that he will win the GOP and Presidency. Pres Bush has also somewhat hinted at his preference, by allowing Mitt to announce his candidacy at Bush Sr's Library. He looks fiscally good when you look at his business history (so did Ross Perot :funn:, but that didn't get him anywhere). He looks the part, and people can pronounce and spell his name (stop laughing -- you don't think Kucinich could ever win, do you?). He is political enough to appear concerned and caring, and should slip right back into poliTRICKS without a problem. He's a member of the LSD, I mean LDS Church, and his Great, Great Grand Father supposedly helped to create the "religion." (isn't it fascinating that someone can create their own religion?) That will turn some voters off, but likely only the extreme Southern Baptists. About the only dirt you can find on the guy has to do with a few things he said in the past, for which he later apologized. There was that thing with the Olympic Committee paying out bribes in order to get the Olympics, but I think Romney stepped in to run things after that, and he turned their bank account around to the positive side. Oops. Almost forgot about Gov Romney requiring Mass residents to purchase Health Insurance or face penalities. For his own sake, I hope he doesn't sling that mud at Sen Clinton too much regarding her wanting it required for all Americans. That could get him into trouble. Thus far, it has just been called partisan politics.

Mitt may be on target to win it all, but what if he slips one of those Howard Dean Yeeeeeahawwwws? Who then, will take over his place? Is he strong enough to beat out the Dem nominee, Sen Clinton? (Edwards is laughable and Obama doesn't stand a chance in this particular race at this time -- maybe down the road, but I doubt voters will buy into his politics, even though he looks like a smooth candidate otherwise) Is Mitt centered enough to win it all? I think so. With Sen Clinton as the opposition in the big race, she will have voters running to the polls to vote for Mitt.

What do you like or dislike about Milton "Mitt" Romney as a Presidential Candidate?:dunno:

Yes.

(And don't think I missed the crack about the extreme Southern Baptists, either, even though I'm a good little Presbyterian these days.)

OK- part 2 of this question- who should/could/will be his running mate?

Call me irrational, but I don't think America is ready for a president named "Mitt." (Just thinking about the comedic limericks boggle the mind.)

(Ditto for Huckabee.)

Coming from an upbringing of Southern Baptists, surely I can tease about the "extreme" Southern Baptists. If they think the Methodists are bad, and the Presbyterians are the devil, don't you know what they think about the Catholics? How about Muslims? Jews? (hey, wasn't Jesus a Jew?) Buddhists? Agnostics? Hindus? Atheists? Pagans? Mormons? They are all going to Hell unless they convert to Southern Baptist. :funn: Sorry , I got carried away. Back to your thoughts on Mitt...

I was totally nuetral on him for a long time...but...I really disliked him after his speech on his Mormon Faith. Instead of enlightening the public about specifics of Mormonism (I think he mentioned it only once), he spun the majority of the speech into a diatribe about not recognizing any other religions except "Christianity."

He came off saying, in essence, you have to be "religious" to truly be an American. I think it was a total ploy to avoid the issue totally and win Iowa away from Huckabee, and, at the same time, winning over some Huckabee supporters who think Mormonism is really just a cult.

Is Rove working for him now?

That's a very good question, and I haven't seen any clues. I imagine he or she won't be coming from the current Presidential Race.

He may be smooth, attractive, and can handle a buck well, but he has no real plan for getting us out of Iraq, and his SPF proposal sounds naive and lacks an understanding of the Middle East.

Interesting thoughts. He did buy into Bill Clinton's "don't ask, don't tell" philosophy. Maybe if Bill Clinton had only stuck to his philosophy, he would have avoided all of his problems regarding Monica Lewinsky. In my opinion, Bill should have said that sex is a personal preference, and told people to mind their own business. That is exactly what Mitt did regarding his addressing of Mormonism. Trying to explain a religion at a Press Conference? I don't think even a preacher could do that, and if they do, you best beware.
