Michigan but someday in SoWal as well
I agree that the businesses are open in August. I don't know of any that close, but of course there may be a few that I'm not aware of. We've come to 30A the last two summers in August and all the businesses -- restaurants/activities/stores -- seem open. The benefit is that they get our business so they can stay in business and we get great food/fun/stuff without crowds or waiting in line. Our family vacation in August is our favorite time of the year to be on 30A and our favorite time to venture out and go shopping/eat out/go to Big Kahunas and other activities. (I know some people on this list don't favor Big Kahuna's and other commercial waterparks because they can be tacky, but we enjoy them and we even add a trip to Krispy Creme donuts as part of our trip to Big Kahunas -- followed by lunch at the Back Porch -- or is it Front Porch -- restaurant in Destin.) Our kids love the day we do this (fortunately, they also like just hanging out at the beach/pool on all the other days we're there).

Hehe...yes maybe we should buy something. :D Trust me, we think about it ALL the time. The thing is, we always come "the cheap week" in August and always try come for a week in the winter. Then, we try to come in the Spring if we are able to. We share a house/condo with our family during the winter and summer trip....so it is MUCH cheaper! Hmmm....any beachfront properties going for $200,000? :rotfl: YEAH RIGHT!!!! Plus, these days I'm a Stay at Home Mom so I'm not sure if the budget will allow!!!!

I live in Illinois so we have a 12 hour drive. Now that we have a 1 year old, the drive is a little longer. I'll let you know how the Dunes are. Hopefully, they will be as nice as the picture.

Sorry to misinform on the closed businesses. I say that because last time we were in PCB in August, we drove around on the main strip for an hour looking for an open restaurant, and finally asked a policeman about all of the closed businesses, and he explained that most of the eating establishments in the area had closed for the season. We finally found a fast food chain that was open. Perhaps we weren't looking in the right place. :dunno:

You are close, yet so far away.
