more Football tongue lashing than you can throw a stick at

Well, I just read the SEC Football thread and thought it needed to be continued since the lock-down. I've got two words, Go Dawgs!

That was some intense reading over there on the other thread, but it is mild compared to being in the student section with a bunch of drunks.

Kurt, you let me know when you think that it is fair for UGA to call playing football in the Swamp, "nuetral field." ;-)

Hey, did anyone notice whether or not UGA won this past weekend -- I was working. ;-)

That's what I figured. But it seems that when it comes posts related to college football, many of them contain hostility, not just with attacks against teams, but personal attacks. The latter is unacceptable IMO.

Are you suggesting that you are not mentally handicapped by cheering for UF?:idontno: You are definitely crazy if you suggest so! ;-) :D

I am an effing genius for cheering for UF. :rolling: Win or lose, I love my Gators.

As far as crazy goes, G?del showed that provability is a weaker notion than truth, no matter what axiom system is involved. So, how can you figure out if you are sane? Once you begin to question your own sanity, you get trapped in an ever-tighter vortex of self-fulfilling prophecies, though the process is by no means inevitable. Everyone knows that the insane interpret the world via their own peculiarly consistent logic; how can you tell if your own logic is "peculiar" or not, given that you have only your own logic to judge itself?

Screw that. I'm not crazy for cheering for the Gators. :floor:

SJ, you crack me up!

Have you heard that Auburn has adopted a 17th mascot for themselves?:funn:

Because ... ?
A couple of UT fans got riled up at the ribbing the Vols were getting. They should'nt get too upset. UT has a fine tradition and they should be proud Even their orange color has a rich history. It is said in UT lore that the orange was selected because you could wear it to the game on Saturday, wear it hunting on Sunday and wear it picking up trash on the side of the road the rest of the week.

Now that you bring this up, I always wondered why Auburn is both the War Eagles and the Tigers. But then Alabama is the Crimson Tide with an elephant mascot. :idontno:

MIT has two mascots as well -- the Engineers and the Beavers :funn: . When my daughter was at MIT, we loaded up on MIT Beaver sweatshirts, etc. We always get comments when we wear them. I can't imagine why.:rolling:

No comment on that. One of my husband's best friends and former boss is a UT grad, and we have funn and civilized rivalry banter with him.

But the orange hits home. One day I dressed out in all orange the day before a big UF game. Daughter made me change clothes because she said I looked like a prison escapee. :floor:

Please don't try to get the Aubbies to explain it. It is always a rambling speech on how they are really the Plainsmen, officially the Tigers, only yell War Eagle and had a goat mascot at one time too. Just accept it as the nonsense that it is.;-) In contrast, Alabama actually can answer the question of mascot dicotomy in two to three sentences, and it makes sense.

Oh 30gAy you would love it. They all wear tight pants. Most of the time the quaterback plays "under center" instead of shotgun, (that's nice hand placement for you), and they even have tight ends. Someone is always slapping someone elses butt. What more can you ask for??
Section 6/paragraph 4/line3 in the QB handbook states: "No cupping!" It just after the section on the hazards of a hangnail and before the commentary on copeing with center flatuence.

Women who are not born in to football, as they are in the south, usually pick a team with the cutest coach, QB, or mascot, or the best uniform colors. You can do better than that.

In the SEC (the nation's best conference) you have 6 teams out of 12 that have a legitimate shot at winning the conference championship year in and year out - Alabama, Auburn, and Louisiana State in the western division; and Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee from the eastern division. Might as well start with one of these because it would be no fun picking one of the other 6.

In the west, LSU has been very strong recently, along with Auburn. Alabama is clawing it's way back up after being down for many years and in trouble with the NCAA for rules violations. LSU fans are the craziest and can cook up a storm. While the food in Baton Rouge is awesome, most unbiased fans will tell you that Auburn is the 2nd best place in the league to spend a Saturday afternoon. Although, Bama is reported by the fairer sex to have the cutest coach, beauty is fleeting and true beauty in the SEC comes from fielding a great team.

In the east Florida is also rising again after a few down years and UGA has had recent success although they have lost 15 of the last 17 to UF. Florida is the defending national champion in basketball so you'd be all set for bball season as they return their top 6 players. The Swamp in Gainesville is the best place to see a football game and acknowledged by media and coaches as the toughest place for visitors to win. Tennessee? Well, Tennessee fans are embarrassed or embarrassing.

Good grief, I'm gonna wait and try to understand this later (like around cocktail hour). It appears that because I like Tom Petty, I should pick the Gators as my team. Now I need to figure out WHY that is...

Poor Jen-ay, just let it happen girl, don't resist. Drink the koolaid. You are used to round balls having grown up here in KY(and what with the starter husband and all). It seems that while round balls are popular here and in Indiana, the farther south you go the balls change shape, becoming pointed on the ends. This is a due to the force of gravity or the Bermuda triangle or something like that. I believe I read this in National Geogrpahic, anyhoo embrace the football, first downs are your friends...do not be afraid. You can be Switzerland for a awhile and remain neutral while you decide who is worthy of your cheers.
