Saw on the news tonight where a company that has oil rigs out in the Gulf is wanting to increase the number of oil rigs in the Gulf around the Panhandle area. Do not remember the name of the company though. Florida is saying no because of what effect they feel it will have on the 6 popular beaches in the area, especially if there was a oil spill that ruined the beaches. And they say it would take 10 years to repair what damage was done and would cost the panhandle and Florida as a whole many tourist dollars. This company thinks there is alot of oil that is available through that area which would keep the oil and gas prices down maybe but at what cost? If hurricanes damaged the rigs like past hurricanes did then it would spell disaster all over again. Someone tried to say the oil rigs were made better able to withstand hurricanes now. I do not know whether I agree with that. Wondering what thoughts you residents have on this.

For all out of state posters, please write your US Senators and Congresscritter and ask them to block current measures to open the eastern Gulf of Mexico. There are currently a couple serious bills in Congress to lift the current drilling ban of Florida coastal waters.

I thought Jeb had recently decided to allow more drilling, almost due south of Pensacola. :dunno:

From what they showed on the news I watched last night when they were talking about this they stated that Florida said no to drilling but who knows if they have their information correct or not! I think that was on the CBS National News. I didn't hear anything mentioned at that time of Jeb Bush allowing more drilling but who knows.

I seem to recall the people of FL voting NO for allowing drilling within 100 miles of the FL coast. Perhaps they are drilling 101+ miles off the coast. :dunno:

While you are at it, please encourage them to supprt the current proposal to let Louisiana keep a greater share of revenue generated by oil and gas drilled off our coast. With this $ we could (in theory anyway) foot much of the bill to rebuild our wetlands, fund levees, pay for damage repair after storms, etc.
