Same reason the levies in NOLA weren't well maintained. The New Orleans Levy Board had other stuff they wanted to do with the money.

So now that someone wants to do something about the decline, he is criticized? Sheesh. Politics.

I think the criticism is not aimed so much at what he is proposing but at the timing of his proposal. His party is behind with little time left so he wants to throw 50 billion out there to try and salvage the mid-term election.

We all know how to cut spending on things we do not need vs. spend on those thing we do need. Pull out your calculator and start prioritizing. Note though you're starting off with a deficit of 1.3 trillion which you'll need to work off first.

I guess it is how you want to look at it. I remember this being discussed way before now. Of course I don't look at it as some sort of subversive timing thing, but more of a "how do you fit everything that needs to be accomplished into one 4 year term (or even 8 years?). I think President Obama is addressing problems as quick as possible and damn the timing.

I want him so sit down and listen for a minute because every time he "addresses" a problem it gets worse and we slide farther in debt.
