I don't have to buy a Mother's Day or Father's Day gift, but I hope I get to see "all my kids" on Mother's Day.:clap:

You're right Ms. Kitty that did make me go awww.

Sarafunn and Beth think alike. I saved alot of the books that I used to read to my kids. But we lost some of them in a move. Now she gives me childrens books that I used to read to them as Christmas presents. It never fails to make me tear up too.

children's books - what a wonderful idea for a gift. wish i could remember way back when. I don't really remember my mother reading to us much. she had 4 kids and was so busy with cooking and cleaning and laundry and driving and all that jazz. in her spare time she drank coffee and smoked cigarettes with her friends while we were playing somewhere in the woods. she definitely deserves a special day, but Mermaid - your mother has the right attitude about Mother's Day - it should not be turned into an obligation, and we should certainly honor our mothers all year long. very good lesson and one we need to pass on to our children so that they will know that we expect flowers and nice words on a regular basis. hey - somebody's gotta teach 'em to do the right thing!

I just shipped off a gift box of origins skin care products to both moms. I hope they like them. and included a photo or two of the grandkid.

I love doing mother's day shopping. but I am always stumped for father's day. I just don't know how to buy things for guys. let's hear some ideas!!! please!!! I refuse to buy another shirt, country music CD, BBQ utensil set, etc. maybe the dudes need a gift card to their favorite kind of shopping place.

I agree..Dads are hard to buy for. My dad loves to be outside on his patio when the weather is nice. He has a koi pond and sometimes we buy decorative things to go around it. His birthday was last month and I bought him a table centerpeice that burns gelled alcohol. It's sort of like a mini fire pit. It was pretty with rocks around the outside. He liked it.

We made mosaic stepping stones one year with the kids handprints in the center. We used some type of special paint and wrote Happy Father's day and the year. Dad loved it and the kids love to go and see how much their hands have grown since then.

We don't really do "gifts" like cut flowers, candy, or jewelry - more a day of family time and useful stuff and a nice dinner.

When we lived at home our annual Mother's Day gift was several flats of annuals and installation and weeding services.

I did that for my Grandma, it's probably time my kids start doing the same.

I still want something made by heart and hand. Homemade cards, poems, pictures in a frame and CDs have been favorites.

you better learn 'em good!!!

OL - I love the mosaic tile idea you mentioned. it makes me think that we should try to put more time and creativity into the gifts we give. photo album, framed picture collage, a painting done by the little artist in the family and framed nicely, a "gift certificate" for a good hand washed car, etc.

what do I want? I done tole my boys I want a wonderful lunch out and a relaxing day at the beach or a quick getaway to Indian Pass. no wasting time on a gift. just sugars. oh, and a sweet card.
