"Rich and Famous," a pretty, funny, piece of fluff movie set in New York during the Christmas season, starring Candace Bergen and Jacqueline Bisset as best friends since college days. I love this movie.

"Anniversary Party," an edgy piece about a young film group couple and their friends and neighbors. One of those independent films with Jennifer Jason Leigh, Alan Cummins, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Parker Posy.

"The Christmas Story," which both the husband and I can quote line-for-line and we never tire of it, even if it lasers into our brains and, "...you'll put your eye out!"

My weird one: Jurassic Park

I like all 3 JP movies too. Also, add the Pelican Brief to my list.

Actually, any movie I like is one that I will keep on watching if I happen upon it while channel surfing. Especially this time of year. It's so drafty and cold in our house that Merman and I snuggle under the quilts while we watch TV. Once I get warmed up and comfy it just about takes just about takes a nuclear blast to make me move! It's an effort to get up and go upstairs to bed.

Tonight the Sound of Music was on and we watched that. I hadn't seen it in years. For a long time I thought it was kind of corny but tonight it hit home what a wonderful movie it is. What a terrifying time in history to live through. I'd love to go to Austria and do one of those "Sound of Music" tours and have the whole thing explained live, in person.

Too far from the beach (Chicago 'Burbs)
Not necessarily my preference, but I've seen most Disney movies a couple of hundred times each. :bang:

As for movies I like to watch over and over - This is Spinal Tap, Sling Blade, Rain Man and The Sure Thing. I think The 40 Year Old Virgin is about to get added to the list as it just came out on DVD. And I really need to buy Sideways - been wanting to see it again ever since we rented it.

Oh, it's by far the best of the Cohen brothers movies. Waaay better than Fargo or the others. I believe it's one of their 1st. Has a very young Frances ManDormand as the lead female. It's a thriller and very worth while owning.

I think Blood Simple was indeed the first Cohen movie; it is listed as the first movie Ethan ever wrote, in 1984. I do not consider it their best--for me, that would be Miller's Crossing--but I do enjoy Blood Simple quite a bit. Very noir.
Bsmart: I haven't seen Steel Magnolias in awhile, I think I need to rent it. I just rented Places in the Heart a couple weeks ago, what a great film.

I agree with Mermaid that any movie I like can suck me in (Gladiator is one), but there are a couple that I own that I just HAVE to watch several times a year:

Little Women (the one with Winona Ryder, Christian Bale, Gabriel Byrne, lovely production design, excellent screenplay)

Blue Crush (Gorgeous surfing scenes, lots of realistic sister interaction, and quite funny--"He's wearing nut-huggers!")

Soldier of Orange (Based on true events, sweeping WWII story, funny, poignant and compulsively watchable, Rutger Hauer in his handsome youth)
