If you rent a truck, use Hertz Penske, as they only keep them in their fleet 2 years.

 I feel for ya!

  • I found the cheapest boxes and bubble wrap at Sam's
  • I have not used Hertz Penske but have used Budget Moving Trucks SEVERAL times in the last months. I don't use U-haul as they have broken down on us in the past. Budget is also a fraction of the cost compared to Uhaul.
  • Hire someone to clean your home after you leave, trust me, that is the LAST thing you will want to do.
  • Label, label, label. THat way whomever unpacks your truck will know where to put the boxes.
  • For important items remember to write it on the outside of the box. I swear I tore open about 12 boxes several weeks ago looking for cordless phones.
  • I bought one box of packing paper and was glad I did. What I did not use little IBD could use for art projects!
  • I did buy some good thick boxes for dishes and breakables. I was glad I did as nothing was broken.
Best of luck to ya'll in your move!!

Empty out one room in your house completely and use this room to store all the fragile/expensive stuff, important paperwork, computer (don't let the movers take this), clothing and "Open First Box" (stuff you'll need when you get to the new house for the first couple of days)--lock this room when the movers are packing your stuff.

Get a BIG BLACK MARKER and write the contents/room location of each box...or for security, number the boxes and keep a personal list of things packed in each box.

You will pack your own dishes and breakables better than any mover will. Plus, you can buy some boxes and wrap now and start doing it a little at a time.

If you disassemble anything, put all the screws/nuts/bolts in a bag, take the loose parts and tie/tape them all together in one unit if possible. (i.e. disassemble a TV stand, put all the screws/brackets in a bag, tape the bag to the underside of one of the shelves, stack it all together in the middle of heavy duty brown paper, wrap it up and tape with packing tape--write on outside "TV STAND - BEDROOM")

Photograph/video and record make, model and serial numbers on all your electronics, appliances, etc. You'll need this for any insurance claims.

...do you need to sell your house too?

what they^^ said. start packing now, a bit each day.

i remember a move that was started and concluded in about four hours one time... i think there was some beer involved.

:lolabove:...oh, to see a video of that move!!!

I have been having the itch to move here in Dallas, just to do the purge....well, and live in a more energy efficient house that was not built in the '40s. Yes, I know I need professional help.

olive...if this happens in October, please let Dodie babysit me!

Her name is Dr Suzy, and she can write Rxs for good stuff. Be sure to have some on hand.

Trust me, fron one who knows. This is the best advice you will ever get regarding moving. :lolabove:

Nohall, the end rolls of newsprint I was referring to is the clean kind that hasn't been printed on yet; the same stuff you buy as sheets in the store. I don't recommend newspaper because then you have to wash everything it was wrapped in; black ink everywhere.
