::takes deep breath::

Okay all, this is our situation. We are, as the thread title says, moving to PSJ.
Yup, we are leaving Denver for little Port St Joe. I suppose we might be trading snow shovels for sandbags but we are ready to do this.
We have suffered from late-midlife-itchy-feet for quite some time now, for various reasons: I hate snow, am tired of the high desert, and miss the ocean, husband was very unhappy at his job, etc. We came out to the Panhandle two years ago and loved the area. Nice folks, and beautiful beaches.
So now we are taking the plunge. Husband accepted a St Joe job offer Thursday and gave notice at his office yesterday. We need to sell our Denver home, and head out there by the end of October.

We still have a 16 year old at home. He is not as devastated as you might think; he has had two years to get used to the idea.
But we are all in for an adjustment. We've looked at various high schools and considered a commute situation but decided to just go with PSJ.

So I will be asking questions from time to time. I know this is Gulf County but hopefully some of you can help me. We are in contact with realtors and are trying to figure out where to live.
We have a lot to learn!

Congrats

I am sure you will look back on this and be extremely happy come November when you hear about a huge snowstorm that hit Denver as you are walking the beach.

I'd say you're in for culture shock. PSJ was the capital of Florida for a short time way back. It is a pretty area with lots of wildlife. It has been poor for quite some time and was devestated economically when the paper plant there closed. The future is bright with a real estate boom headed by St. Joe, which owns so much property over there.

The upscale Windmark Beach by St. Joe would be a great place to live but is very expensive. I would look at the Eastern part of PSJ all the way over to Appalachicola. Indian Pass is a quiet little place between the two.

Many of us who live here love it over there, and go there to escape the fast pace of Grayton Beach. :rotfl:

You will need to learn how to relax ASAP.

Michigan but someday in SoWal as well
Congratulations on your decision (we're tired of the snow and long winters, too, but we like our jobs up north for now). And please give us your impression and advice (places to stay, eat, things to do) on Port St. Joe in case those of us who haven't been there decide to go visit sometime.

Congratulations, Cil! Port St Joe is a growing community. I love that place. :clap_1:

You are not the first to warn me of this! ;-)

There is no way we can afford Windmark, but I will take the advice about looking eastward.

Thanks for all the comments, folks. Otter I did live in Boulder for a year (many years ago!) and it is a beautiful place, I love university towns, but it's a bit ivory tower for me.

I just visited PSJ two weeks ago and found it to be charming, although I liked Apalachicola better..I just thought better shops and retaurants. Took a day trip from FWB to there and had planned to eat lunch at Indian Pass Raw Bar, but it was boarded up--I guess still from Dennis? It's beautiful down there though. The traffic in Panama City was not!
