Springfest, Magnoliafest, Magnolifest Midwest, and (formerly) Magnolia Ball are all run by Randy and Beth Judy. Springfest and Magfest (S/M) take place at Spirit of the Suwanne Music Park(SOSMP) www.musicliveshere.com, in Live Oak, FL, pretty much at the intersection of I-10 and I-75 approx 45 min east of Tally and 3 hours door to door for me(on the bay, off bay drive). three and one half days of music and a primitive(tent) campsite are included in your quite affordable admission price. Camping upgrades (power and water)are available by contracting with SOSMP directly. Randy and Beth use at lleast 4 different stages; main - in the ampitheatre, Dance - in the field, Music Hall - in the bar/coffeeshop bulding(read air conditioning), and Old Florida Stage - a tent on the way to the music hall(typically for workshops and 'unpluged' sets)

As mentioned above, such a mellow festival. the main stage is in an ampitheater, cut into steps(read pool when rains come) in a grove of trees. there is an area set aside up top for people to hang their hammocks and more than enough room for everyone, there is ample vending of food, beverages and crafts, which includes one of the best coffee 'shops' around the joyfull cup, an old blue schoolbus converted into a coffee shop. the rear is the business end, and the front is a living room where artists go and give impromptu sets. tables and chairs are set up out front cafe style, with board games and current newspapers, etc. and he's open by 6:30-7am for those of us up early.

people go to these concerts every year and it's like a reunion, seeing people you haven't seen for a while, from all points of the country. you know where to find them, because they get the same sites everytime. site decoration and 'ammeityfication' are huge (non)competition fun, ie working sinks, showers, lights, living rooms, etc. as is the deoration and beefing up one's golf cart(s), you southern school alumni know all about that, i believe.

these events are also quite taper friendly as well. the soundboard offers a feed and power to the tapers, so it is quite a scene. i don't use the soundboard feed, opting to capture a more 'warm' feeling ambient recording, using mics. i bury an extension cord in the sand up to the tree, and set up there. it seems, to me, that i'm the only one seeding the shows afterwards, also. wierd, with all the tapers that are there, i think more recordings would be around.

Magnolia Midwest was first attempted this year up at Bill Monroe's Bean Blossom Park in Bean Blossom, indiana. I was not there, but joey went, as did dread clampitt, and a good time was had by all.

springfest runs march 23-26, Magfest runs october 19-22. the magnolia ball was in mid-summer and gear more towards jambands. i believe, with the proliferation of jamband festivals springing up all over the place, that the magnolia ball will not be seen again.
