Merry Christmas everyone!
I'm giving everyone a little extra time in case someone wanted to submit a post for the dinner for two at D&K's. Cut off time will be Tuesday December 12. The local and "out of town" winners will be posted on Wednesday evening December 13th!!! They will be notified through PM. So if you haven't posted yet...you still have time!!!
Here's a Christmas story that happened to me and my daughter last night at dusk.
I had been in Panama City all afternoon at a very important meeting. It went longer then expected and I missed the Wine tasting/training for our staff.
I had promised our daughter to take her Christmas Shopping at the Destin Commons. She is 13, and every promise counts at that age!!!
I race home from PCB bypassing the Cafe
(Champagne was being tasted)!
She's ready to go and jumps in the car. We have 2 1/2 hours before Grey's Anatomy comes on:clap_1: So we've have plenty of time
I turn out of Gulf Place and head down 30-A happy to get some shopping done. My daughter and I are laughing at events that happened at school that day when all of a sudden I see this white plastic bag flying down the sidewalk toward the street. But as I watch it I notice it has 4 legs.
 It was going so fast it looked like a blurr of white cat. I slowed down (we were right at that beach pedestrian walk before Tom Thumb) You know, where they've built a little covered seating area that looks like a bus stop! This animal was NOT stopping and a large car with an elderly woman was coming in the opposite direction. The timing was not good... I stopped, blew my horn at her and pointed down...just as I did that the cat, which was not a cat...(it was a Jack Russell Terrier) ran straight across the pedestrian walk without one look either way!!! Our hearts pounded as I lost sight of it running under the front end of the ladies car. She stopped....and with a terribly worried face yelled..."DID I HIT IT.....DID I HIT IT?" I opened my door, and looked around her car...the dog was no where to be seen.
As I walked back to my car a whirl of white passed me and jumped into my seat. I got in and was covered with dog kisses:roll: ...even my window is covered with his licks.
Looking back this is funny, but really not funny. I pull into the Tom Thumb to think about this situation:scratch: The lady in the other car gave a sigh of relief and drove off waving at me...probably glad it was me and not her that opened a car door.
Of course the dog had no collar, but we could tell it was well taken care of...and totally at home on my lap. My daughter is wondering what are we going to do now
...I know where her mind is...shopping!!!
Then it hit her:idea: ...she said this dog looks like Petey. I said who???? She said Petey... and it turned it's head and look right at her. She kept calling it Petey and it began wagging it's tail and licking. She called it other names and nothing. Petey is a dog that belongs to her best friend's Aunt. I'm a little sceptical at this point. Surrrre we just happened to be riding down 30-A and saved the life of a friend's Aunt's dog.
Now a half hour has passed and we're trying to call her friend to get the Aunt's number. No one can be reached and then my daughter "thinks" she can find the Aunt's house. It's dark and we're winding around the back of the Santa Rosa Beach Club Golf Course....we find it!!!!
By this time I'm feeling like this could be a miracle. I can see through their window a family enjoying their Christmas tree with a little daughter about 2. A perfect Christmas card scene. I jump out of the car with my Red Wool Coat covered in white hair...and walk up to the door carrying one well fed terrier. The woman spots me and comes running.
Then the whole family is watching with noses pressed to the glass door.
YES! It was their Petey, and they didn't even know he had run off. They told me he had just been sitting on the patio an hour ago. THAT is one fast dog! Big smiles and thank yous all around. I get back into the car and head to Destin Commons with a very warm feeling in my heart!!!
After that, shopping with my daughter was a breeze!!! We were both on such a high from the experience. That's one lucky dog! Of course, Doug thought we were the lucky ones....all he could invision was sharing a bed with a dog!!!!:nono1:
