Women couldn't vote.

Blacks couldn't vote.

No one could vote for Senator.

Plus we had a tiny standing army...bye, bye Eglin.

Did I say it was perfect? What I said was that the period from 1800-1899 was a period of overall explosive economic growth, low taxes, limited government and opportunity for individuals. The problem is that we not only fixed the flaws but tore down the good as well.

Don't forget that the slaves got room and board plus free medical care.

Nobody wants their vote negated by another. It's natural to be frustrated. The majority will voice themselves through their vote.

If it's close then we're probably on the right track. If it goes one way in a landslide then I hope the tone changes and everyone comes together.

That sounds different that most of the post I read of yours. Why would you think it being close or a landslide change the perspective of the electorate. You will still have conservatives, Liberals and Moderates all wanting to see their veiw points represented. Those that say the R's or the D's is the only way are not necessarily representing my veiws in total. We are a constitutional republic, it is suppose to be right in spite of politics. Politics should not even play into it. Careers are made based on what is returned home and how those that are suppose to represent us represent something different. Although I like the folks I cast my ballot for, in the next election that can just as easily change based on how I feel they have accomplished their representation of me. I realize that this may sound naive but to think whether and landslide or a close race will be pointing us in a wrong/ right direction will change the tone of politics.

Nothing changes. Conservatives only care about money, theirs.

If both sides come out even then it makes sense to assume people are generally happy with the policies and direction we are headed. If, however, there is a dramatic shift toward one party overall then you have to acknowledge it. It's not about left or right but the majority that serves as our keel.

I'm not talking about the whackos on either end of the spectrum, you're always going to have those... The average American can see the forest through the trees.

So the opposite is a Liberal that only cares about other people's money?

Hmm, too bad the Republicans and Tea Baggers didn't feel that way when Obama was elected. They slammed the door and became the party of NO!

Right here!

Which is exactly what the democrats did in 2006. Is it fair for one to suffer whatever one has caused others to suffer?
