Hey all you political knowitalls...is this true?

Windfall Tax on Retirement Income

Adding a tax to your retirement is simply another way of saying to the
American people, you're so darn stupid that we're going to keep doing this
until we drain every cent from you. That's what the Speaker of the House
is saying.. Read below...............

Nancy Pelosi wants a Windfall Tax on Retirement Income. In other words
tax what you have made by investing toward your retirement. This woman is
a nut case! You aren't going to believe this.

Madam speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to put a Windfall Tax on all stock market
profits (including Retirement fund, 401K and Mutual Funds! Alas, it is
true - all to help the 12 Million Illegal Immigrants and other unemployed
Minorities!

This woman is frightening.
She quotes...' We need to work toward the goal of equalizing income,
(didn't Marx say something like this?), in our country and at the same
time limiting the amount the rich can invest.' (I am not rich, are you?)

When asked how these new tax dollars would be spent, she replied:
'We need to raise the standard of living of our poor, unemployed and
minorities. For example, we have an estimated 12 million illegal
immigrants in our country who need our help
along with millions of
unemployed minorities. Stock market windfall profits taxes could go a long
way to guarantee these people the standard of living they would like to
have as 'Americans'.'
( Read that quote again and again and let it sink in.) 'Lower your
retirement, give it to others who have not worked as you have for it'.

Send it on to your friends. I just did!! This lady is out of her mind and
she is the speaker of the house!

Here is an interesting side light. I called Speaker Pelosi's office and asked the question since the Snopes article is over two years old. I was told they couldn't speak for the Speaker but I might find the info on speaker.gov website. A staff member can't answer a simple question because he can't speak for Speaker Pelosi? Why bother answering the phone?

The way that Congressional and Senate offices are set up is that the public calls the recpetionist, and the receptionist's job is pretty strictly limited to handing out tickets to the White House, Engraving and Printing, passes to watch the debates on the floor, etc. and taking messages to pass along to the higher level staffers who actually handle the social security and VA benefits questions. They're either lifers in the role who don't want to move further up the office org chart or 22 year olds in their first job out of college. The first group doesn't want the responsibility of speaking for their Member, and the second group hasn't been there long enough to be trusted to do so yet.

:rotfl:Same thing happened to me last Fall when I tried reaching her office. She wears so many hats they can just pass her off from one 'idiot' office to the next!

As always, interesting insights, thank you!

Oh, and Kittay ... the profits from 401k and IRA accounts are already taxable (except for Roth accounts). :dunno:

I wish they would raise the contribution limits on those, they're a great way to hedge against future tax rates being much higher than they are today, a distinct possibility these days.

I am just hoping they don't close the 2010 conversion window.

Yep. I wonder if we'll loose that before it comes, I don't remember reading anything about it in Obama's budget though.

That's a big decision, are you planning on rolling an IRA over TFT?

All of the (hot) 22 year olds work for Southern Congressmen. If you called Pelosi's office I'd guarantee you got the bitter old receptionist.
