Santa Rosa Beach man killed in Tuesday afternoon wreck

WALTON COUNTY -- A 75-year-old Santa Rosa Beach man died after the 1993 Buick station wagon he was riding in was hit by an SUV Tuesday afternoon.

Thomas G. Gallagher died at Sacred Heart Hospital following the 4:25 p.m. accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 and Grand Boulevard.

He was a passenger in a car driven by 73-year-old Renee Priggs of Santa Rosa Beach. she was traveling eastbound on 98, when she attempted to make a left turn onto Grand Boulevard. She turned into the path of a 2000 Ford SUV driven by Heather Weil of Roswell, Ga., according to the Florida Highway Patrol press release.

Priggs was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital with minor injuries.

Weil, who is 17, received minor injuries as did the four passengers in her car. Weil, 17-year-old Meghan Flanagan of Marietta, Ga., 16-year-old Margaret Coyne of Marietta, 11-year-old Kathleen Weil of Roswell and 17-year-old Hannah Brents of Roswell were taken to Sacred Heart Hospital.

Charges are pending, according to the report.

All involved were wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Highway 98 was blocked for hours after the crash.
