Last night, I picked up Mr. K at the airport. We decided to go to Nick's on the Bay for dinner, which meant taking Hwy. 20 towards 331. Had a nice dinner and then headed east for home. I was a Nervous Nellie driving that road in the dark and kept commenting on my fear of someone drifting into my lane. Got on the bridge, hugging the stripe on the right, when all of a sudden a pickup truck decided to PASS a car ON the bridge and all I saw were headlights coming right at us! I slowed and got on the shoulder as best I could. Mr. Pickup Driver, you are a perfect example of an idiot behind the wheel. I know so many of you must travel this bridge and road...please be careful.

So glad you are okay - there are crazies on 331 for sure. We saw at least two on the way home from the fair last night.

So glad the kitty's are ok. It is a scary bridge. I never take my eye's off of the oncoming traffic, because you just never know when that one idiot is going to do something stupid!!!!

Yikes!!!

I drove down from Atlanta last night and I had similar worries once I got below Freeport. I'm sure that the people behind me thought I was crazy, driving with my right side wheels on the absolute edge of the pavement. I am more paranoid on that section of road and bridge than I am anywhere else.

Definitely a place to be a defensive driver and to have a plan of action (or reaction) in mind.

There is so much development coming that way too and not much highway improvement. It would be nice if our elected officials put in the roads/improvements before all the new construction.

I'm so happy nothing happened to you! It's prudent of you to be such a cautious driver, especially on that bridge.

You know, the same thing has happened to me. I've also had big pick up truck drivers get right up on my boot and flash lights at me for going the speed limit and being careful. I've watched flashing lights on that bridge from my bed and seen helicopters medivac prople off it too often. Why aren't the police swarming that bridge making these guys as afraid to drive like idiots on it as they are afraid to speed on I-10 in Okaloosa!

Ms. K- so glad you both are ok. I too drove across the bridge a few nights ago and shook the entire way. Thoughts of lives lost there are heavy on our minds.

It is probably time to do some letter writing or emailing to public officials if you haven't already done so. I have such a bridge phobia.....especially if it is a bridge with no devider of any kind. They should put New Jersey Barriers down the center of that bridge and post a lower speed limit and enforce it. When we are there, I have to cross that bridge twice every other day to visit my family in DeFuniak.....just thinking about it makes my blood boil:bang: :bang: :pissed: :pissed:
